12/14: 72-53! 18, 8, 5 for Tack, 12, 6 for Rane, 15, 6 for Wash. So our fill ins, Rane and Wash, did very well! +11 RBs, 6 TOs.

12/17: 81-56 over UAB here. 21, 10, 7 for Burr, 21, 3, 3 for Tack, 12, 11 for Tola, 9, 10, 7 for Wash. +16 RBs, 7 TOs.

#3 in the country.

Back at full strength.

12/21: 84-87 at Bradley; our first loss. Had to come sooner or later but I am not happy about the way it happened. We blew an 18 point lead and disappeared during the last several minutes. Most points we've allowed all year (by 14!). They shot 53.6% and hit 14 threes. 19 TOs. 26, 6 for Tack, 19, 8 for Burr.

12/24: 82-60 over Georgia here. 25, 7 for Fisk, 18, 12 for Burr, 22 for Tack. 7 TOs.

12/28: 80-68 over North Carolina at home to end the pre-conf season. 20, 5 for Tack, 15, 10, 3 for Burr, 17, 3, 3 for Stow.

1/1/2237: 14-1, #2, RPI #9. +20.6 PPG, +6.9 RBs, -4.3 TOs (11.7). Still #1 in Net Rating. Tack gets 19.9 PPG. Burr gets 17.9 and 9.9 RBs. Stow gets 5.2 assists.

December was a very good month for our crews. We now have ALL of the older buildings in the shape we want them in and new construction has resumed.

I'm still hiking and playing volleyball, and I'm getting out of the boat regularly. I'm finding balance and it feels good!

1/7: 83-62 here over Texas Tech in the Big 12 opener. 51-29 at the half. 23, 5, 7 for Tack, 17, 12, 5 for Burr, 17, 5 for Stow. +20 RBs.

Spoke with Darma Rayne, the head of the settlers' council. She is very interested in learning more about what the Kree can do for us, and at least as interested in learning about them. We will definitely speak again, probably often.

1/11: 76-51 at TCU. 38, 7 for Burr. +14 RBs, 7 TOs.

1/14: 75-44 over West Virginia. Great 2nd half again. 17, 12, 3 for Burr, 18, 7, 4 for Tack. +11 RBs.

#2. RPI #9.

Took a terrible spill on a hike. Broke my left leg; multiple fracture. My friends sent for help and robots came and got me to a trail via stretcher, and then I was transported to the holo hospital. The fracture was repaired but it was really bad. I'm in traction for several weeks. Not fun. I'll coach from my hospital bed and not be able to do much else for a while.

1/18: 71-79 at #10 Kansas. We didn't get the 2nd half surge we usually get and didn't shoot well, 34.3%, 9-27 on threes. -8 RBs. 20 each for Tack and Stow.

I'm bedridden and miserable. I was propped up and seated on the bench to coach but I was uncomfortable and in pain for the entire time. Probably didn't help us.

1/21: 79-93 at #9 Oklahoma ST. Two tough opponents back to back on the road. Poor 2nd half again. 36, 5 for Tack but no one else did much. 15 TOs to their 6.

Stow hurt his hand. Day to day.

1/25: 91-70 over Baylor here. 22, 4, 4 for Stow, 20 for Fisk, 17, 6, 9 for Tack.

18-3, 4-2, #3, RPI #14. I can see us losing only one more conf game, IF we play well and stay relatively healthy. We'll see.

Still in traction. It's annoying as hell. I actually managed to get onto the boat and Arla and I went on a trip. It was nice. I was in a modified deck chair- very modified.

Darma Rayne and I had a long discussion about a Kree written book that I sent her electronically. She loved the book. It was about the universe, and the Kree understanding of its intricacies. They have telescopes that show things humans have never seen until we began interacting with them, or until I began, anyway.

1/28: 100-54 over Texas at our place. The O was amazing tonight. 22, 9, 5 for Burr, 17, 5 for Fisk, 15, 6, 4 for Tola. +25 RBs.

Gem Burr is #6 on the Norton list.

Tough one at #14 Kansas ST next.

2/1: 90-75. Big win! 28, 12 for Burr, 18, 10, 4 for Stow, 18, 4 for Tack.

In a 2 way tie for 2nd, 1 back of 1st.

2/4: 90-69 over Offal Roberts here. 50-32 at the half. 28, 6, 3 for Stow, 21, 8, 5 , 4 steals for Burr.

2/8: 70-50 over TCU here. Big 2nd half, held them to 19. 19, 6, 5 for Tack, 16, 9 for Tola. 9 TOs.

2/11: 75-72 at West Virginia. They missed a three at the buzzer. They played hard. 25, 1, 5 for Stow, 15, 6 for Tack. Tola fouled out and Burr played only 21
minutes due to fouls. We'll take the win.

23-3, 9-2, alone in 2nd, one back of Oklahoma ST who is here soon. #2, RPI #6.

Gem Burr is still #6 on the Norton list.

Deek Rane hurt his thigh. Day to day.

Darma Rayne and I are becoming friends. She thinks the way I do and is equally fascinated with the Kree.

2/15: 79-60 at Texas Tech. Another big 2nd half, 39-21. 23, 6 for Stow, 20, 13 for Burr, 14, 6 for Tack.

Finally beginning to walk with crutches. Slow going.

2/18: 88-91 at Iowa ST. The D was awful, especially outside (13-25 on threes). The refs were awful, too; Burr fouled out and three starters had 4 each. 26, 4, 6 for Stow, 19, 6, 4 for Tack. We had a shot to tie it at the end but couldn't get a good shot off.

2 back of 1st, 1 up on 2 teams.

A few days off, which we need.

2/25: 106-87 over #14 Kansas here. A real shootout. We scored 64 in the 2nd half. 26, 10, 6 for Burr, 23, 4 for Stow, 11, 2, 10 for Tack. +9 RBs.

#6 OK ST lost. We're one behind them and they're here next. That makes this a very big game.

3/1: 93-58! We were on fire. 23, 15, 3 for Burr, 24, 6, 3, 4 steals for Stow. Held them to 33.3% shooting.

3/4: 72-64 at Baylor to end the regular season. We led all the way but they stayed close. 21, 3, 3 for Stow, 17, 4 for Tack. Burr is fouling too much recently. We're working with him.

#5, RPI #6. 27-4, 13-3, tied for 1st. I think we're the #2 seed, but not sure yet. +18.4 PPG, +7.1 RBs, -3.1 TOs. #2 Net Rating. Tack leads us with 18.3 PPG. Burr get
17.5, 9.7 RBs.

3/5: Etan Wash declares for the draft.

Gem Burr is still #6 on the Norton list.

I am more mobile now, walking with a cane. It will be a little longer before I can walk unaided.

3/9: We play #7 seed West Virginia, 16-15, 7-9, in the quarter finals. We're the #2 seed. Beat them by 31 and 3.

3/10: 87-48. Never a game. 26, 7, 5 for Tack, 18, 9 for Burr. 6 TOs.

Wash hurt his back. He's out for the rest of the Big 12 tourney.

#3 seed, #18 ranked Kansas ST, 24-6, 11-5, in the semis. We won by 15 there, but they're a good team.

3/11: 58-61. Damn! The O was sluggish all night. We should win when we give up 61- easily. We shot 34.3%, 2-17 on threes. -3 RBs. Burr was in foul trouble all night.

Tola hurt his wrist but he'll be back for the NCAAs.

3/12: #3 East. We play #14 Charleston.

3/16: 69-79. I'm shocked. We never led, never got it to a one possession game in the 2nd half. No idea what happened, except fouls were huge. 4 of our starting 5 spent the night in foul trouble. We're losing both of our starting guards, Stow and Tack, and starting SF Tola.

4/3: #7 Butler wins it.

4/4: Awards: Gem Burr makes 2nd team All American. In the Big 12 Burr is Frosh OY and 1st team. Tack makes the 2nd team.

Would I leave? I'm still not where I want to be geographically, but it would take a terrific offer.

4/9: Staying.

4/23: I ask for a facilities upgrade.

No. 28-6, #6. Disappointing finish to a very good season. Overall, 374-136, .733 after 15 seasons.

5/1: #9 ranked. #2 recruiting class.

6/5: Room for 2 transfers.

6/15: We get a C from Syracuse.

6/26: 4 scholarships. We're going for guards.

The leg is completely healed and I'm walking normally and back to hiking. Spent the past weekend on the boat, reading, discussing, just enjoying being on the water.

8/7: Gem Burr is #14 on the Norton list.

8/21: We offer to 2 PGs, 2 SGs.

9/11: We get an SG, #30.

9/18: Lost one.

Palmetto Shootout. Tough schedule.

9/25: We get a PG, #52, an SG, #26, lose one.

10/2: 1st day of practice. Picked to win the Big 12.

We lose one.

10/9: We lose one. We'll probably bank this scholarship.

Rainy season is heavy again this year, at least so far. We'll probably lose more construction time, but the older buildings should stand up to whatever the weather throws our way.

11/15: Season start tomorrow. Wettest year ever. No construction for weeks, floods everywhere. A real mess.

11/16: 82-59 over Charleston here. 50-34 at the half. 20, 12 for Gem Burr, who moved to PF this season. 17, 14, 4 for C Kurt John. 19, 8, 3 for SF Deek Rane. +15 RBs.

11/19: 87-71 over Northern Iowa at our place. We led all the way. 18, 18 for John, , 18, 3 for Rane. 11 TOs.

11/20: #4 in the new poll.

My #1 recruit didn't sign, which means he won't hit our SAT score. Damn!

No end of the rains in sight.

"Mack Reed, your people live your lives inefficiently. The Kree can assist you in living more simply."

Not sure Grol understands that we don't want to live naked, sleep on the ground in hovels, and eat leaves and other raw things...

11/23: 82-64 over #3 Gonzaga here. 22, 4, 3 for SG Dan Cota, 15, 3, 6 for PG Kin Fisk, 15, 12 for Burr. +14 RBs.

Heading for the Palmetto Shootout. #2 seed. We play #7 ST John, 3-0.

11/25: 77-51. We led by 29 at one point. 15, 13, 3 for John, who is the real thing. 13, 11, 6 for Burr. +15 RBs, 8 TOs.

#6 seed Rutgers, 2-2, in the semis.

11/26: 85-60. 63 1st half points; more than they scored all game. 34, 17, 6 for John, 23, 14 for Burr. What a two player combo they are inside! +18 RBs.

#4 seed Nevada, 4-0, for the title.

11/27: 82-52. 19, 5, 4 for Cota, 17, 3, 8 for Fisk, 15, 9, 3 for Burr. Stop us inside we go outside. Stop us outside we go inside. Hell of a team!

6-0, #4, RPI #3.

Grol says he understands that "You are not Kree. You would not wish to live as the Kree live. And yet there are ways for you to simplify and that would give you more joy. It would allow you to reach deeper into your minds."

Sounds interesting.

11/30: 97-78 over #17 VA Commonwealth here at the Noble Center. +19 at the half. 24, 10, 3 for Burr, 19, 9, 4 for John, 15, 3, 5 for Fisk.

"Look at the spaces in which you reside, Mack Reed."

"I'm living in an area that was designed for 24 people, Grol."

"I am aware of that, Mack Reed. I am speaking of the living quarters being constructed in your settlement."

"Okay, what about them."

"They are gigantic, far more spacious than your needs require."

"It's one of the ways we're different from you, Grol. For us those spaces are fairly stark. People back on Earth, from what we know, lived in far more spacious surroundings. We feel confined, trapped, when our living space is too small. It is a psychological challenge to keep people mentally healthy living in the small quarters they occupy aboard ship. We need room."

"This can be repaired."

"We probably wouldn't want it repaired. Our view is that we can live in these small areas because we have the holos. The holos allow us virtually unlimited space. And we need that. On Earth there were vast areas of space that was not used for much. People enjoyed going to these places to feel the vastness around them. It's why I love the boat and hiking so much. On the water I'm surrounded by unused, unoccupied space. When I hike the trails seem deserted except for my friends and I. They both fill a need all healthy humans have."

"I must ponder and share with other Kree."

12/3: 71-39 over #20 Purdue at our place. The D was amazing! 18, 1, 5 for Fisk, 9, 13 for John. +17 RBs.

12/7: 90-76 over UConn here. 50-31 at the half. 25, 2, 6 for Fisk, 19, 16, 3 for Burr, 20, 5, 4 for Cota, 13, 9 for John. +17 RBs.

12/10: 83-29 over Akron here. 29? 52-12 at the half. 19, 19 for John, 19, 4, 4 for Fisk. +17 RBs, 9 TOs.

"The question of the Terrans has the Kree deep in thought and communication, Mack Reed. It may be some time before we arrive at any conclusions, if indeed we do arrive at such."

12/14: 83-70 over Northern Iowa at our place. +19 at the half. 20, 4, 4 for Fisk, 18, 9 for John.

"My people are grateful to you, Mack Reed. We have not had such a stimulating question to ponder for many of your centuries."

12/17: 82-56 at Iona. 27, 14, 3 for John, 13, 4, 6 for Rane, 15, 5 for Burr. +12 RBs, 7 TOs.

We're #2.

12/21: 78-51 over Old Dominion here. 16, 15, 5 for John, 15, 11 for Burr, 13, 3, 5 for Cota. +14 RBs, 8 TOs.

12/24: 73-70 at UCLA. Our first real battle. We led just about all the way but they kept it close. They missed a three at the buzzer. 18, 4 for John, 17, 7 for 6th man F/C Dan Ross. +13 RBs.

Darma Rayne and I are getting amazingly close. It's kind of weird. She's on a ship millions of miles away and yet we feel so close when we talk with each other.
There's a definite connection here. I have stopped seeing Arla, my holo gf, so I guess I'm thinking I want to be with Darma. Given that she won't be here for more than 8 years...

12/28: 86-74 over #10 Miami here. We led by as many as 21. 20, 10 for John, 18, 10 for Burr, 19, 3, 6 for Fisk. +12 RBs, but 20 TOs.

1/1/2238: #3, RPI #$, +22.5 PPG, +12.7 RBs, -3.8 TOs (12.3). #1 in Net Rating. John leads us with 17.3 and 11.8 RBs. 14.4 and 9.8 for Burr. 14.5 and 4.3 assists for Fisk.

1/7: 82-71 over #9 Kansas ST at our place. They played well and tested us. 22, 6 for Burr, 21, 3 for Cota.

1/11: 91-68 at #10 Kansas. This win makes me think we are going to be VERY hard to beat. Kansas is an excellent team and we dominated them on the road. 33, 4 for Fisk, 15, 16, 6 with 6 blocks for John, 18, 6 for Rane. +15 RBs, 11 TOs.

Deek Rane hit his head on the floor pretty hard. Out for about 10 days.

1/14: 86-62 over Offal Roberts here. Up 20 at the half. 29, 18, 4 with 5 blocks for John. +14 RBs, 7 TOs.

Kin Fisk mashed a toe. Out for a week and a half. Injuries mounting up.

1/18: 71-61 at TCU. We led all the way. 21, 16 for Burr, 10, 8 for John. Not bad for 2 starters out with injuries.

At #13 Texas next with the two guys still out.

1/21: 77-98. Ouch! Can't believe we gave up 98, even with 2 starters out! They shot 56.9%, 10-19 on threes. We had 18 TOs, -2 RBs. They went to the line 42 times, we went 24. Just an ugly night. Oh well, I'll use it as a motivator.

1/25: 87-51 over #23 West Virginia. Nice way to come back from a loss! 49-26 at the half. 25, 8, 3, 4 steals for John, 22 for Cota, 13, 5 for Rane. +19 RBs, 8 TOs.

20-1, 5-1, tied for 1st, 2 teams one back. #3, RPI #2.

"We can get the ship here in 2.35 years."

"What?"

The Kree have pondered, discussed, read, calculated, and configured. We can modify the ship and get it here in 2.35 years."

"Um..."

"Truly, Mack Reed."

"Oh..."

"You seem puzzled."

"I'm flabbergasted. What are the dangers? What's the down side?"

"We have calculated the increased risk at .00007%."

"I'll need details before I present this to Captain Argo."

"Of course."
