Solitary Man

11/28: 73-79 at Binghamton. This is not a team we should have lost to but the road is never easy. We were down 10 at the half, 20 with 10 minutes to play. We finally caught fire at that point but it was too late. Too many fouls and 17 TOs. 16, 7 for Wood, 12, 5 for Spen.

Bench Coach Tim Allen: Coach Blake and I decided to start Kest at SF. He's been playing better than Howe.

2/1: 79-71 at Army. We didn't ice it until the last couple of minutes. They were tenacious. 19, 2, 5 for Wood, 21 for Wilk, 14, 6 for Spen.

The Board meeting was apparently very heated. A few of the Board members were very upset that the inmates had struck and that the Warden had sided with them. The majority was with the Warden and supported the prisoners, but it was only 5-4. No promises regarding changes but a committee was formed to study the issues of work hours, equipment, and education and training. They will report back in January.

12/5: 78-88 at Canisius. DAMN IT!!! They were 0-6 coming in. 37-55 at the half, then they got the first basket in the 2nd. We never got closer than 7. I am NOT happy! 20, 9, 5 for Wood, 21, 0, 8 for Wilk but they couldn't do it alone. The D was abysmal, they shot 61.4%.

12/6: Didn't sleep a wink last night I was so pissed. Even worse, I couldn't study and the exams are next week.

12/12: 84-67 over Rutgers here. Up 17 at the half and they never got it to single digits. 18, 4, 4 for Wolf, 17, 11 for Spen, 17, 3, 5 for Wilk. 7 TOs. We looked good tonight.

Good way to come back from a loss.

First day of law exams. They're today, tomorrow, and Weds. The exams were really tough but I think I did okay.

12/13: Today's exams were about the stuff I care most about and know the best. I KNOW I did well.

12/14: Lots of property and inheritance law in today's exams. I really studied hard for this part because I have little interest in it but it's probably what I'll wind up working on when I get out, unless Born Free or another organization like that hires me.

12/19: 66-80 at Brown. And once again we play like crap on the road. Damn! It was tied at the half but we didn't play at all well in the 2nd; we gave up 47 points, and let them shoot 66.7% for the 2nd half. Terrible. 20 TOs added to our problems. We shot a pathetic 32.7% for the game.

12/23: I passed the law boards. I am now officially a lawyer, even though I haven't been, and won't be admitted to the Bar. That means I can't appear in court as an attorney, so I can't represent anyone, but I can do all the rest of the lawyer stuff, all the various kinds of legal research and other paperwork. I CAN be called as a witness in court, which will happen from time to time related to the research I do.

12/26: 69-77 at Furman. They're a good team, 7-3, but I hate to lose, and that's 3 losses in our last 4 games. They led most of the way. 22 TOs, but they had 21. Still, I really do not like turning it over that many times. Poor D, they shot 54.2%. 19, 9 for Wood, 17, 2, 6 for Wilk.

We need to turn this around.

12/29: The prison Board committee came back and recommended that the prison provide better opportunities for education and job training. Another committee will deal with the specifics but they were charged with acting quickly. The only change to work hours is a half day on Saturday. There will be more gym equipment, and an outdoor basketball court. Let's see if that will satisfy the inmates.

1/2/2050: 87-69 over Georgia here. Up 10 at the half and we were never challenged in the 2nd half. Great game for Wood- 22, 10, 8. 16, 3, 5 for Wilk, 14, 8 for Spen. 10 TOs.

We end pre-conf. play at 7-4, RPI only #176. +7.6 PPG, +5.1 RBs, -3.5 TOs. Wood leads us with 18.6, 8.5, and he seems to be getting better as the season progresses.

The SF position is still wide open. I'm taking minutes from Kest and giving some to Ward, some to Howe. We need to get more from that spot.

No word yet re when the judicial review will take place.

1/9: 77-72 at Texas-Arlington to start Conf. I play. 21 lead changes, 8 ties. Dave Wood finally took matters into his hands and did everything- scoring, rebounding, passing, defending, and we came away with the W. Wood had 17, 10, 5 with 4 steals. Wilk had 17 as well. 11, 7, 3 for Spen. Ward and Howe both played better than Kest, but we'll keep watching for a couple more games. A terrible 19 TOs but they had 24.

Still no word on the judicial review. I'm really on edge about that.

The prisoners group said they are satisfied with all of the Board's recommendation except for hours worked. They propose to the Board a reduction to 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, no work on Saturday. Their complaint is that those doing hard, physical labor are exhausted after a 10 hour day, especially since it's 10 hours on 6 days.

1/12: 64-61 at Hawaii. Beautiful islands and we came away with the win. We never trailed by more than 2 points, and the final margin was due to them hitting a very late three; we were in control at the end. 16, 5, 7 for Wilk, 15, 7, 4, with 6 steals for Wood. Kest, Ward, and Howe all played about the same on O and with RBs, but Howe was +12 and the others were minus.

It's nice to start conf. play with 2 road wins.

We took an extra day here to see the sights, go to the beach... Too good to pass up.

1/13: We have a court date for the judicial review! Feb. 5. My attorney will be here next week to begin final preparations with me.

1/16: 80-59 over Duquesne here. Up 12 at the half. This was a fairly easy win, which was nice for a change. Another big game for Wood, 24, 11. Ward and Howe had 12 each.

10-4, 3-0.

I'm going back to Howe as the starter at SF.
