5/1: #64 recruiting class.

We buy the West Prime, and the National and International Basic scouting reports.

I never mentioned that Nat Sims broke his index finger on his shooting hand late in our last game. He won't miss any time.

5/3: The flu seems to be leveling off a bit. We're at almost 1000 dead, which is nearly half the crew. We've lost three department heads, and countless key personnel. Things will never be the same. And it's not over yet.

5/8: Only 22 people in sick bay. 1088 dead, 47.55%. All 22 look like they will recover, and there have been no new cases either today or yesterday. The captain has extended the restrictions to in cabin for the time being as a precautionary measure.

5/13: No one in sick bay, except for someone with kidney stones. Restrictions end tomorrow. All personnel back to their regular jobs, with robots filling in the empty slots. Lots of job changes, of course, promotions and such due to vacant positions. All decision making positions will be held by humans. Robots will do the rote jobs.

A crew of 2288 is now at 1200. Lots of empty space...

6/5: Ouch! We lose two people. Cole Shyn, our 2nd big off the bench, and Sam Rock, our last guard, both transfer. Rock didn't figure in our plans. Shyn might have. We'll look at transfers.

We offer to a PF from Syracuse and a PG from K ST.

6/15: Got 'em both.

6/25: We're going to the Indy Elite and the Las Vegas Revue camps.

Everything is at the new normal on the ship. A lot of faces we'll never see again and we miss every one of them. It seems strange to see so many robots around. They're everywhere. We always saw them in the holo chamber, and they look and move just about exactly like humans, but there's a little something that gives away the fact that they are not human. No idea how to describe it but I always know within seconds, and I'm guessing most everyone else knows as well.

6/26: Only one scholarship. We want a guard, hopefully a PG.

7/11: 2 guys we like are interested.

Things remain difficult in that there are so few people around. You can't have a conversation with a robot, at least not one you want to have.

8/7: Tafa Akpo is only #49 on the Norton list. He's better than that.

8/21: We offer to a PG. He has us in his top 5 so we have a shot.

9/1: I don't understand it but we have had our first request for a co-habitation contract between a human and a robot. Why? The guy could just move the robot into his quarters. I mean what's the point?

9/5: Jeff Ward, the guy who applied for co-habitation with the robot says he wants it to establish the right for human/robot couples that love each other.

Okay, I guess a human can fall in love with a robot. I guess a robot can be programmed to fall in love with a human.

Trying to find the harm in this. I don't know. Council meets tomorrow night.

9/6: It was a very interesting Council meeting. 6-6 tie on the co-habitation request. I voted in favor.

Those opposed said it could lead to the uncomfortable situation where some humans were left without partners. Given that a robot can be programmed in whatever ways the programmer desires, it might be that a human couldn't compete, at least in some people's eyes.

That could never work for me. Knowing that the robot would do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, would become boring very quickly.
I spoke to what I think is a very valid point. There are people who, for any number of reasons, are simply never going to find a partner. For those people a robot might be a good solution.

One of the antis asked what was to stop someone from co-habitating with 2, 3, any number of robots.

I said that there was nothing to stop that. We have no laws against multiple party co-habitation among humans and some people are in those relationships.

The antis agreed that we couldn't stop it but we shouldn't sanction it.

To me it's no big deal. The Captain has the power to break ties on the Council. She chose not to, which means the application is rejected.

This will come up again, I'm sure.

9/18: We got the recruit! #70.

We're in the Golden ST Classic vs. Auburn. Challenging schedule!

10/2: First day of practice. I think we're going to be really good this season. We're deep, too. I'd like to have one more solid big, but we should be okay unless disaster strikes.

We're picked to win the PAC-12 which would surprise me, but a lot of teams lost their best players, and only Oregon is ranked, #23.

11/15: Season starts tomorrow. Here's the lineup:

Soph Tim Smid is back at PG. He did a decent job last season. He has looked really good in practice.

Kent Maxx, a soph transfer from Florida looks VERY good. He could rival Akpo as our best player. We're excited about adding him to the lineup.

Junior Hal Huss lost his starting job. He'll be our first guard off the bench. . Junior Jim Culn and frosh Key Curl are also available at guard.

Junior Nat Sims has worked hard enough to earn the starting spot at SF.

Our only senior, Tafa Akpo, is back at PF. When he stays out of foul trouble he is a force.

Junior Flip Hart is back at C.

Junior Jon Blen is our first big off the bench. He started last season and wants that job back. Sam Milt, a soph, is our other big. His D is what limits his minutes.

I'm looking forward to a really good season.

North Carolina is one of the best programs in the country but this is a down year for them. They're here for our opener and I like our chances.

11/16: We take an early lead. Up 5 after 10. Akpo is hot. Up 9 at the half. Akpo and Maxx are doing the scoring. Up 18 with 10 to play.

85-67. Great way to start the season. 27 and 9 for Akpo. His man got 3 and 1. 17, 6 for Maxx. We won it at the line, 32-37 to 18-23. Shooting %s were about the same but we took 10 more shots. Best news may have been only 8 TOs!

+18 in the paint. Their bench outplayed ours easily. I expect more from our bench.

1-0 Georgia is here. They crushed a lousy team in their opener. We didn't learn much from watching the video.

11/19: We miss our first 7 shots. Up 2 after 10. Akpo is leading the way again. Up 1 at the break. We go on a run. Up 19 with 10 to go. Sims caught fire in the 2nd half.

89-65. Terrific 2nd half, 48-25. 23, 19 for Akpo, 22, 7 for Sims, 13 each for Smid and 6th man Jon Blen.

We won it from the field, 19 more shots and made 11 of them. +8 RBs, 13 TOs but they had 26. Our bench was better but still not as good as I want them to be. It's early.

Our recruit signs.

We're ranked! #21.

1-1 Provocation College is here. Their SG is world class. We'll need to contain him. They are shooting an amazing 46.7% on threes. They play an outside game but they turn it over. We'll need to make that happen. I'm going to start in a 3-2, and see what happens.

Things are quiet on board. It's still lonely, and all of still deeply miss our dead comrades. Everything is running smoothly and we're on a normal work schedule. All of that is due to the robotic workers. With nearly half the crew gone we couldn't do it without them.

11/23: Up 2 after 10. Both teams shooting poorly. Tied at the half. Run! BIG run! Up 20 with 10 to go. It's Akpo again.

73-56. We held their world class scorer to 11. We stayed in the 3-2 for the 1st half then swittched the defenses up in the 2nd, which was much more effective.

21, 15 for Akpo, who is starting the season very impressively against decent teams.

Jon Blen, our 6th man, sprained his wrist. Out about 2 weeks.11, 13, 5 for Hart, 16, 3 for Sims, 11, 3, 4 for Smid.

At 3-0 Northwestern next. They haven't played anybody. Their SF can light it up but he doesn't get much help. They play good D. We should have a big edge inside.

11/26: Huge early lead. Up by 21 after 10. Up 32 at the half; not pretty. Up 35 with 10 to go.

97-67. A laugher. 24, 15 for Akpo. 19, 4, 5 for Maxx; hopefully this is the start of big things from him. 13, 9, 3 for Sims.

We shot 55.4%, made 16 more field goals, 12 threes. +12 RBs, only 9 TOs.

4th in the nation in both scoring and RBs, NET #6. 11.5 TOs, which is great. I always want to average fewer than 12.

1-2 Georgia Tech is here. They're better than their record. This could be a test. They have a lot of trouble scoring but they play great D, and they take care of the ball. We should have the edge inside.

Ranked #18.

11/30: We take an early lead. Up only 1 after 10. Tied at the half. Up 11 with 10 left after a run.

91-81. Another exceptional game for Akpo, 25, 13. 11, 12 for Sims, 13 each for Hart and Maxx.

+14 RBs. We won it at the line, 35-47 to 15-20. We won it inside, as well as at the line.

1-4 DePaul there. We're the better team. They have trouble scoring, and their D is weak. We should control the boards.

The Society for Human/Android Love sent a petition to the Council “demanding the sanctioning of interspecies relationships.”

The Council will take it up tomorrow.

12/1: A LONG, sometimes acrimonious debate. At the end the vote was 6-6 again. The Captain elected to break the tie. Human/Android relationships now enjoy the exact same legal status as do human/human relationships.

This makes sense to me in the legal sense. In the other sense it doesn't. I just don't get how a person can love someone that they can program to be exactly what they want them to be. But I support the right to do so.
