Coaching Carousel

Coaching Carousel

Postby CollegeHoopsFan » Fri Feb 28, 2025 1:10 pm

I’m noticing that I’m seeing the same coach leave for multiple jobs in the same year in the coaching carousel. For example in my sim Fred Hoiberg left his job at Vanderbilt to take the Minnesota job then left Minnesota to take the Texas A&M job in the same year.

It also seems there is a lot of big names moving onto to different schools for example Mark Pope moving from Kentucky to Tennessee. I also see the Michigan State coach took a job at Nebraska the same year. Bigger prestige schools like to go after big name signings I know but I feel like there maybe isn’t enough pull for the Assistant coaching pool.

Just want post a few things the mod does currently. I know the mod in the first year of play will probably have more coaches move around. The reason for this is there are a lot of older coaches in the game as the mod has real coaches with real ages. The game retires coaches at about 66 years of age. There are quite a few coaches over that age such as Rick Barnes at Tennessee which was one of the teams you mentioned. I'm sure he retired as he is 70 years old, as would quite a few more over 66 years old.
I just checked Mark Pope and believe his Ambition is too high so that's why he left and I think the way I have some of that setup is because he moved from BYU to Kentucky and that triggered his rating to change jobs jumped up. Hoiberg has medium setting to change teams so I'm not sure but why he would move much but Texas A&M would be a move up. I do believe the second year it will settle down to a more normal pace as those older coaches will have retired and new younger ones will replace them.
Form what you are seeing I will look at those settings much more closely the next few days and will be updated in the next update as Pope isn't going anywhere as he has his dream job right now, unless he gets fired of course. We only had a bout 1 day testing before First Release came out so I expect to have a few issues to iron out. I understand about what you are saying about assistants getting some of those jobs. I think the game only hires the best coach it can find at top tier schools and not sure how to change that as it occurs with or without the mod, but I did set Potentials higher for top assistants and that might help some, but again further testing would need to be done to go several seasons in to know if it does or not.
If you see anything helpful for me to look at please provide feedback as I will work on guys like Pope who should stay where they are. The age thing the only way to fix that in the mod would be use lower fake ages. But some of the other coaches I can look at and tone down accordingly. Coaches in real life that have not moved for years are already low movement in the Mod, it's the ones that have moved recently are I suspect are the issue.

I would say the biggest issue with what the OP posted is a coach moving multiple times in the same carousel year. That shouldn’t happen. If a coach leaves for another school it should lock him into that school for the year

I noticed he said that and I would have no control of that and would need Gary to look at it. I haven't seen that happen but to be honest it's possible and I didn't notice. But I did start looking through head coaches last night and did adjust some like Pope he mentioned was set too high and now will be staying at Kentucky and a few others that needed adjusting down.
When coaches moves twice does it show under their history of being at a team and not having any records, or can you see that anywhere in their or team history? Just trying to have a good way to be able to report and show it so it can be looked at.

Is that something we need to edit ourselves? Or will there be a update coming to the Mod?
Would love to see a light skin (or multiple skins) UI option for all games. Like a 2021 version and a 2024 version

I looked at Fred Hoiberg’s history and doesn’t show his multiple job changes in the year just where he ended up for that year. I only noticed the multiple changes when I was in coaching carousel period and noticed jobs opening up multiple times on the open jobs tab then checking in the polls & media section. That’s where it was reporting coaches taking multiple jobs.

I will investigate coaches being hired multiple times in one summer - if you see this happen can you not save your file but go back to where it was prior saved and then follow the instructions under help to submit the file and tell me (if you can remember) which coach to watch out for and I will trace it to see what is happening

It will be in the mod. I have already gone thru the coach's and will post an update either Thursday night or Friday morning to go along with the DDSCB25 Official Release. That's when it is good to start a association you wish to use long term.
Just a FYI I do one more update after that usually a few days after the Championship game in April based on end of year results.
