12/7: 1-6 Montana is here. This should be a walkover.

12/8: We miss our first 6 shots. Up 5 after 10. 38-29 at the break. 9, 2, 3 for Hill, 9, 3 for Newn. Our SGs carrying us again. Only 4 TOs. +10 inside.

Holding our lead early on. Up 20 with 10 to play.

74-63 but it wasn’t that close. 15, 4, 3, 4 for Newn, 14, 6 for Wats, 13, 3, 3 for Hill. Only 7 TOs. +16 inside.

12/11: At 2-6 Army. We score 20 more per game.

12/12: Slow start for both teams. Up 8 after 10. We own the paint. 36-29 at halftime. 14, 6 for Wats.

We start fast; 15 point lead. Wats is lighting it up. Up 20 with 10 to go.

87-66. Never a game. 33, 11 for Wats. 12, 7 for Redd, 11, 9 for Hall. Only 10 TOs. +24 RBs, +16 in the paint.

Sometimes you really like a player. I love Kyle Hall. He works very hard both at practice and during the game, he has a great attitude, and he can play! The front court is too loaded for me to be able to start him but he’s first off the bench. He does a really good job just about every game. I expect he’ll start next season.

Ted Newn strained a hamstring. He’ll play, but limited minutes.

12/14: At 7-3 Columbia. They’re 4-0 at home. They can play but I don’t think they can match us inside. Their SG can shoot.

12/15: They take an early lead. Down 2 after 10. 35-38 at the half. 11, 5 for Wats., 7 for Hill. Only 4 TOs. They’re sloppy and we need to take advantage.

Down 10 early. We catch up. Up 6 with 10 to play. Close late.

OT! 95-97. Wats missed a 16 footer at the end. Tough loss. 27, 8, 4 steals for Wats, 13, 6 for Redd, 11, 7, 3 steals for Kosi. Poor shooting- 2-13 on threes, 35-50 from the line, 37.7% over, hurt. We had
17 fewer turnovers. You shouldn’t lose when that happens. +14 in the paint. Our bench was -17.

Newn was okay playing hurt but he wasn’t his usual self.

12/18: In the middle of a 5 game road trip. 3-6 Coastal Carolina is next. We should rule the inside.

12/19: Close early. Up 2 after 10. 39-41 at the break. Close! 13, 5 for Wats, 12, 4 for Kosi. +8 in the paint.

“I need more outside, only 2 points from my guards.”

We’re playing catch up early. Down 4 with 10 left. Can’t catch them.

68-74. 2 losses in a row. 18, 9 for Wats, 10, 9 for Redd, 13, 4 for Kosi. +20 inside.

Playing Newn hurt is really taking a toll on us. He’s playing limited minutes and he’s clearly not himself. He should be at 100% for our next game.

12/25: One more pre-conf. game, at 5-6 Bellarmine. We’re definitely better. Time to end the losing streak. Newn is back to 100%.

12/26: Both sides are shooting terribly. Down 1 after 10. 41-35 at the half. 10, 6 for Kosi, 7, 10 for Redd.

“Come on. You can do MUCH better!”

Holding our lead early. Up 6 with 10 to play. Tied with 4 to play.

71-79. DAMN!!! We faded late. 16, 7 for Kosi, 13, 12 for Redd, 13, 3, 2, 3 for Hill, 10, 10 for Hall. The bench was -11 and that was a huge factor. -9 from the line was another.

3 game losing streak which totally sucks.

9-4 to end the pre-conf season.

Wats leads in scoring with 14.4. He gets 7.2 boards, 2nd on the team. 12.1, 6.8 for Kosi. 11.8, 7.9 for Redd. 10.9 for Hill, 10.3 for Newn. 9.8, 6.1 for Hall. 6.8 assists for Pabe.

+5.3 PPG, +4.5 RBs, -3.9 TOs, 11.2 which is great.

1/1/’28: We start CAA play at 5-6 Hampton. We need to turn ourselves around.

1/2: Behind early. Down 1 after 10. 36-46 after a frustrating first half. When will this slide end! 8, 10 for Redd, 10 for Kosi. Only 2 points from the bench.

They widen the lead. Down 12 with 10 to play. I’m biting my forehead I’m so frustrated. We get close late.

89-90. Kyle Hall missed a free throw with .7 seconds left that would have tied it. 4 losses in a row. 17 each for Kosi and Newn13, 5 for Wats, 10, 16 for Redd, 12, 3 for Hall. +38 in the paint and it wasn’t enough. I don’t know what to do.

1/4: Hofstra, 7-6, 2-0 is here. We finally have a home game and we sure need it.

1/5: Early lead. Big lead. Up 12 after 10. 57-52 at the half. Neither team played D. 17, 5 for Wats, 10, 1, 4 for Newn. This has become a mental thing for us. We need a win to break it.

Double digit lead. Up 12 with 10 to go.

102-96 but it was not in doubt late. 26, 10 for Wats, 20, 6 for Redd, 14, 5 for Kosi13, 1, 5, 3 for Newn. Only 8 TOs. +34 in the paint.

Hopefully this win will turn us around.

1/8: At 6-7, 1-1 NC A & T. This is a game we should win and we NEED a road win

1/9: We fall behind early on poor shooting. We come back. Up 5 after 10. We get the lead to 15. 48-45 as we fade late yet again. 13 for Newn, 9, 3 for Kosi.

Take care of the ball. 10 TOs is way too many.

We get the lead back to 10. Up only 4 with 10 left to play. They take the lead, We come back.

90-84. We got that road win we needed. 18, 8 for Kosi, 18 for Newn, 13, 9 for Hall, 13 for Hill. Only 4 TOs in the 2nd half. +20 in the paint.

1/11: 4-10, 1-2 Charleston is here. We score 13 more, give up 1 less.

1/12: Close early. Up 6 after 10. 42-35 at halftime. 11 for Hill. Only 1 TO. +12 in the paint.

They catch us early. Back and forth. We go on a run. Up 12 with 10 to go. We take control late,

93-78. 18, 2, 3 for Newn, 15, 12, 3 for Redd, 13, 6 for both Kosi and Hill, 12, 4 for Wats. +12 RBs, +14 in the paint.

We’re definitely playing better.

1/15: At 9-6, 3-1 Campbell. We’ll need to be on our toes.

1/16: Back and forth. Their C is going off! He has 20 in no time. Up 2 after 10. They go on a late run. 38-47 at the half. 11 for Hall. Their C has 23.

They’re holding their lead early. Down 11 with 10 left.

85-95. We were never in it.

23 and 4 for Hall, 12, 7, 3 for Redd. Their C had 30.

This is not the team I expected them to be. I thought we would be much better. There’s still time for us to get there but it’s getting late.

I think we’re pressing too much and we’re going to cut back to about half the time.

1/18: 8-8, 3-2 Hampton is here. They’re tough outside.

1/19: We start slow. Wats heats up. Tied after 10. Late run! 44-30 at the break. 11, 5 for Wats, 8, 6 for Kosi. Only 3 TOs.

We get the lead to 20. Up 13 with 10 to play.

84-67. 19, 9 for Wats. 12, 9, 3 for Hall, 13, 2, 8 for Newn, 12, 8 for Kosi. +14 RBs, +20 inside. Pressing less seemed effective.

1/22: We’re going after a very good PG who still hasn’t committed. We’ll see what happens.

At 5-13, 2-4 Stony Brook. They have a really good SG but we’re better.

1/23: Early lead but it’s close. Up 4 after 10. 40-34 at the break. 13 for Newn, 9, 4 for Hall, who continues to impress.

We lead but they’re staying close. Up 8 with 10 to go.

96-83. I love road wins! 22, 6 for Hall, 21, 3 for Newn, 14, 8 for Wats. +20 inside.

1/25: 9-9, 3-4 Drexel is here. We score 14 more a game and give up 7 more. We’re better inside.

1/26: We trail early but it’s close. Down 9 after 10. Lousy D. 38-47. NOT happy with the D. 18, 4 for Wats but no one else is doing much. Bench is -14. +16 inside.

“Play some damn D!”

We start fast and take the lead. Up 4 with 10 left. We’re playing better in the 2nd but it’s not over. Close late. 24, 11 for Wats, 15, 4, 4 for Newn. +26 inside.

85-78. “Nice work in the 2nd. I like that you fought hard.”

1/29: In a 2 way tie for 2nd, 1 back of 1st at 15-6, 6-2.

Wats leads us with 14.9. He gets 7.1 RBs. Newn gets 12.3. Kosi gets 12.2 and 6.2. 11.2, 7.8 for Redd. 11.0, 5.9 for super sub Kyle Hall. 9.9 for Hill. 6.6 assists for Pabe.

7th in the country in PPG at 86.6, +5.8. +5.3 RBs. -4 TOs and a terrific 10.5.

A PG commits. One more to go. We’re putting a lot of eggs in one basket and going after the very good PG.

I haven’t talked much about living in Boston. I’m not a city guy. The bright lights don’t do anything for me. I do like to get out to Fenway during the season, and there are some good museums in town.

I couldn’t tell you a thing about the nightlife here.

1/29: At 11-9, 5-3 Hofstra. We won by only 6 at home. It should not be easy.

1/30: Back and forth. Down 4 after 10. They go on a run. We’re down 20. Ugh! 37-55 at the half. No D and not much O. 10 for Newn. Both Kosi and Wats have 3 fouls.

We get the lead down to 3. We take the lead. Tied with 10 to play.

100-89. The first half was all them, the 2nd was all us, 63-34. 23, 6 for Hall. 22, 1, 4 for Newn, 20, 8 for Hill. +27 for the bench, mostly in the 2nd half. +13 RBs, +20 in the paint. A very
satisfying win after being down 21!

Newn hurt his hand. He’s day to day.

2/1: 9-11, 5-4 Delaware is here. They have a very good C.

2/2: Close early. Up 8 after 10. 41-34 at the break. 10, 4, 3 for Wats, 8 for Redd, 7 for Hill.

We hold our lead early. Up 6 with 10 to play. Late run ices it.

91-77. 18, 9, 4 for Wats, 13, 7 for Hall, 13, 3 for Hill, 12 each for Newn and Redd. 8 fewer TOs.

We’re tied for 1st in the CAA.

2/5: At 12-9, 6-2 Towson, the team that’s tied with us for 1st place. We score 12.4 more, give up 3.1 more.

2/6: We’re 1-10 early. Down 3 after 10. 28-34 after a low scoring first half. Redd and Newn have 8 each. -8 for the bench.

“You’re in this. You just need to start hitting shots.”

They lead by 10 early. Still down 10 with 10 to go. We go on a run. Close late.

70-71 as Cole misses a 20 footer. He should not have been in there and should not have been the one to take the shot. 16, 5 for Hall, 13, 12 for Redd, 15, 5, 3 for Newn. We lost it at the line. They went 30 times we went 10.

We get an SF to commit.

2/8: 6-17, 4-6 NC-Wilmington is here. We’re much better.

2/9: Back and forth. Up 5 after 10. 45-42 at the half. 10, 3 for Kosi, 9 for Redd, 8, 3 for Hall. We got nothing from the backcourt. Only 1 TO. +16 in the paint.

Close early. Up 6 with 10 to play. Double digit lead late.

92-78. 21, 7 for super sub Kyle Hall. 16, 7, 3 blocks for Redd, 17, 5 for Kosi, 11, 8 for Wats, 11, 3 for Hill. Only 3 TOs for the game. +22 in the paint.

“Fred Greb, CSB. Coach Wynn, CSB is doing a special on college superstars and how they’re doing or how they did after college. You’re the only one who didn’t go pro.”

“That’s an old story by now. I never had any interest in playing pro ball.”

“Are you happy coaching at the college level?”

“I am ecstatically happy. I absolutely love coaching college hoops.”

“What about the millions you turned down?”

“I make decent money and I have no financial worries.”

“Yeah, but tens of millions?”

“I couldn’t care less about that. Money is only important if you don’t have enough, and I have enough.”

2/12: At 6-17, 4-8 Wm & Mary. We score 13 more and give up .1 more. We should win this one.

2/13: Early lead. Up only 3 after 10. 45-44 at the break. 11, 8 for Redd. 9 each for Newn and Dard. Dard played a lot because Hall uncharacteristically picked up 2 fouls in one minute. +11 RBs.

We jump out to a 10 point lead. Up 12 with 10 left.

101-99 but we were never in danger of losing. They just made a big late run. 20, 11 for Redd, 14, 4 for Wats, 18, 2, 4, 4 for Newn, 10, 12 for Kosi, 13, 3 for Dard, and 10 for Hall. +17 RBs, +32 inside.

We’re alone in 1st as Towson loses 2 in a row.

2/16: Close early. Up 10 after 10. 40-25 at halftime. 10, 6 for Kosi, 8, 3, 4 for Newn. 2 TOs. +12 inside.

20 point lead early. Up 15 with 10 to go.

90-66. 20 and 5 for Hall who is going to get more minutes. 15, 6, 4 for Kosi, 13, 3, 4 for Newn, 9, 15 for Redd. Only 4 TOs. +24 in the paint.

2/19: At 8-17, 6-8 Monmouth. We’re better but it’s a road game.

2/20: They take a quick lead. Down 14 early. We can’t make a shot. Down only 5 after 10. We’re heating up. 50-48 at the half. We were down 19 early. 14 for Newn, 11, 3 for Hall.

10 point lead early. Up 14 with 10 left.

93-90. They made a late run but we were never in danger. The score looks close because they hit a three at the buzzer.

Kyle Hall responded to getting increased minutes with 25 and 6. 23, 2, 3 for Newn, 14, 5 for Wats.

1 up on Towson with 3 to play, 2 of them at home. We’re 12-2 since the 4 game losing streak.

2/22: 11-115, 6-9 NC A & T is in. We won by 6 there. They’re better outside than in.

2/23: Back and forth. Run puts us up 10 after 10. 34-35 at the half as they come back late. I’m about to heat up the locker room. 11, 5 for Wats, 10, 6 for Redd. Only 2 TOs. +16 in the paint. Poor shooting was our biggest problem but we didn’t take good shots.

Up 11 with 10 to play.

90-79. 24, 10 for Wats who has been relatively quiet this season. He had a better year last year. 14, 7, 3 for Kosi, 14, 7 for Redd, 13, 7 for Hall. +32 in the paint.
