GM Notes

Well there we go, we have survived this far. It's time to collect our thoughts after this season and work out what direction we want to go both with staff and players. My eyes are fixed firmly on the draft lottery right now but free agency definately is in the back of my mind.

Draft Lottery

Here we go. If things go to the odds we will get the 1st, 3rd and 6th picks of the NBA draft. If you add it all together we have about a 34-35% of getting the first overall pick. Still nervous but it's better than 1 lottery pick!

14 - Golden State Warriors
13- Los Angeles Lakers
12 - Chicago Bulls
11 - Sacremento Kings
10 - Memphis Grizzlies
9 - Orlando Magic
8 - New York Knicks
7 - Brooklyn Nets
6 - Portland Trailblazers
5 - Charlotte Bobcats
4 - Brooklyn Nets
3 - Denver Nuggets
2 - Phoenix Suns
1 - Brooklyn Nets

Well a bit dissapointed that the Nuggets jump to 3rd from 10th. It knocks two of my picks down a spot and crucially I only have one in the top 3 now. But still I have the first overall pick and that is the important one. Roll on the draft!

2012-13 NBA Awards

MVP - Chris Paul (22.8 PPG, 9.8 APG, 4.3 RPG, 2.3 SPG)

Defensive POY - Dwight Howard (21.3 PPG, 1.4 APG, 12.3 RPG, 2.0 SPG, 2.2 BPG)

6th Man - Manu Ginoblli (16.7 PPG, 3.8 APG, 4.0 RPG, 0.8 SPG, 0.6 BPG)

Rookie - Thomas Robinson (15.0 PPG, 1.5 APG, 8.5 RPG, 0.9 SPG, 0.8 BPG)
Coach - Greg Popovich

Wow I did not expect to see any awards for us this year! Big congratulations to Thomas who can hopefuly build on this great acheivment over the years to come.

Staff Changes

The Suns sack their entire staff
The Nets sack their entire staff

I mentioned I was considering it right at the beggining of the season. I felt it was needed. It was a poor season and now I want a big name to come in, attract the type of talent I expect to sign. I can already think of one...

The Nets Hire;

Head Coach - Phil Jackson
1st Assistant - Steve Patterson
2nd Assistant - Patrick Ewing
3rd Assistant - Jason Kidd

I am very happy with the coaches signed. Jason Kidd straight out of retirment has everything still fresh in his mind. He can work with the backcourt and help them alot. Likewise who can't learn a thing or two from Patrick Ewing. As for Phil Jackson? When you have unlimited money at your disposal, you go after the best and no doubt Phil is the best.

Rookie Workouts

My first pick is likely to be Francesco Ravanelli. A 19 Year Old, 6'8 Shooting Guard out of Italy. He looks like a real talent. WSSN rate him 4/5 while my coaches say he is 5/5. This is pre workout though we will see how he is.

I have also arranged workouts for the following;

Tyron Marsh - 6'4 SG (Providence)
Terence Keys - 6'10 PF (Cincinatti)
Brandtd Acani - 5'11 PG (Stetson)
Mike Williams - 6'9 SF (Wake Forest) *Mock Drafts have us picking at 7th*
Gordon Lawson - 6'11 PF (LIU Brooklyn)
Chad Moran - 6'9 SF (Vanderbilt)
Tom Stephenson - 6'6 SF (Georgia Tech)
Carlo Gauchi - 6'9 C (Italy)
Viktor Konovaleav - 7'2 C (Russia) *Mock Drafts have us picking at 4th*
David Robinson - 6'6 PG (Georgia Tech)
Marcus Diggs - 6'3 SG (Arizona)
Ratko Dragomaovic - 6'9 PF (Serbia)
Ashley Williams - 6'3 SG (Maryland)
Chris Crenshaw - 6-5 SG (Virginia Tech)

NBA Draft 2013

1 - Brooklyn Nets

Francesco Ravanelli, 6'8 SG (Italy)

How perfect this is. We loved everything we saw from this kid in the workouts. Dubbed "The Phenom", draft experts have described him as a freak blend of Lebron's size and athleticism, with Kobe's desire, attitude, and ability to get any shot he wants. He is someone who will want the ball alot. With his ability I see no problem in that. His defense is ok, although he is a steal specialist. Hopefully Francesco will live up to the huge expectations. He averaged 23.9 PPG, 6.4 APG, 5.1 RPG, and 2.6 SPG in the Italian League with Siena. He was named league MVP and was voted to the all league 1st team, and 1st defense team.

2 - Phenoix - Mike Williams, 6'9 SF (Wake Forest)
3 - Denver - Carlo Gauci, 6-9 C (Italy)

Trade

ORL Get: 2013 1st Round Pick (#4)
BKL Get: 2014 1st Round Pick

I probably should of got alot more for this but I feel Orlando in 2013-14 will not be good. It was a tough decision to make but there was just no one I liked at this spot. The consesus number 2, Terence Keys, was still on the board but he had not impressed me one bit in the workout. I think I just want to go with our 7th pick and look at next years draft aswell.

4 - Orlando - Terrence Keys, 6'10 PF (Cincinati)
5 - Charlotte - Gordon Lawson, 6'11 PF (LIU Brooklyn)
6 - Portland - Marcus Diggs, 6-3 PG (Arizona)
7 - Brooklyn -

Viktor Konovalev, 7'2 C (Russia)

Predicted to go to us at 4 originally. I know our aim is to get Dwight Howard which makes this a strange pick. He was the best player on the board and there just wasnt any SF on there that filled me with confidence. This guy has size, a good low post offense. He will probably be a bench option/trade bait but we will see. That's my draft done. I wont be looking to get involved in trades right now. He averaged 12.0 PPG, 1.3 APG, 8.7 RPG, 3.1 BPG with Moscow in the Russian League where he was voted MVP, Defensive Player of the Year and voted to the All League 1st Team and All League 1st Defensive Team

8 - New York -Tyron Marsh, 6'4 SG (Providence)
9 - Orlando - Chad Moran, 6'9 SF (Vanderbilt)
10 - Memphis - Chris Crenshaw, 6'5 SG (Virginia Tech)

So that's the top 10 and now we can start looking towards the Summer League and after that, the moment we've been waiting all year for. Free Agency.

Verdict

An undefeated summer league wont mean a whole lot unless backed up once we get into the season but it's a good sign. Ravanelli was consistently brilliant. He distributed the ball alot more than I was expecting as he had been considered a bit of a greedy player in Italy. But maybe that was just because he didnt have the talent around him. Konovalev started and ended strongly but didn't show much in between. I think it will come and his size will always be helpful.

Free Agency 2013

Here we are! This is the moment I have been waiting for since I first joined the organisation. This is what makes or breaks me, and what makes or breaks the Brooklyn Franchise. I am very very excited but at the same time nervous. I hope we get what we need.

Day 1-4

No Activity

Day 5

Tim Duncan re-signs for Spurs on a 1 year/12.5mil deal

Day 6-7

No Activity

Day 8

Orlando Magic sign Devin Harris on a 3 year/21mil deal

Brooklyn Nets sign Kyle Korver on a 2 year/7.6mil deal

No doubt, one of our biggest problems last season was scoring. Kyle is a great 3 point shooter who hopefully can grab some good points for us, most leikely off the bench.

Day 9

Brooklyn Nets sign Blake Griffin on a 4 year/54 mil deal

Brooklyn Nets sign Dwight Howard on a 4 year/62mil deal

Cleveland Cavaliers sign Andrew Bynum on a 4 year/64.5mil deal

Orlando Magic sign Landry Fields on a 3 year/20mil deal

This is what we put up with such a terrible season for. I have had a phone call from Mikhail congratulating me. We have aquired the most explosive, exciting player in the league with Blake Griffin, and a defensive monster in Dwight Howard. Both took slightly less money to be able to come here, so they obviously beleive in the project we have going. I am a very excited man right now. Thomas Robinson shouldn't fear, the plan is for him to move to SF and that completes our lineup.

Day 10

Dallas Mavericks sign Ray Allen on a 1 year/3mil deal

Day 11

San Antonio Spurs re-sign Manu Ginobili to a 1 year/9.3mil deal

Memphis Grizzlies re-sign Tony Allen to a 4 year/35mil deal

Day 12

New Orleans Hornets re-sign Eric Gordon to a 5 year/58mil deal

Day 13

Utah Jazz re-sign Al Jefferson to a 5 year/69mil deal

Atlanta Hawks re-sign Josh Smith to a 5 year/63mil deal

Minnesota Timberwolves sign James Harden to a 4 Year/53mil deal

Sacremento Kings re-sign Tyreke Evans to a 5 year/57mil deal

Day 14

Detroit Pistons sign Nikola Pekovic to a 4 year/41mil deal

Orlando Magic sign Paul Millsap to a 4 year/48mil deal

Day 15

LA Clippers re-sign Chris Paul to a 5 year/62mil deal

Brooklyn Nets sign Vince Carter to a 1 year/1.2mil deal

A bit of experience to sit behind Francesco Ravanelli and help teach him the game. I've always been a big Vince Carter fan.

Day 16

No Activity

Day 17

Detroit Pistons sign Gerald Henderson to a 3 year/31mil deal

Brooklyn Nets sign DaJuan Summers to a 2 year/1.7mil deal

Brooklyn Nets sign Chris Douglas-Roberts to a 1 year/826k deal

I need bodies now. Cap space is an issue, I have my mid-level exception tied up in an offer at the moment. The recipient is taking his time but I feel will be worth it. We've got the great starters, but now we have the miami problem of getting players around them.

Day 18

No Activity

Day 19

Brooklyn Nets sign A.J Price to a 1 year/826k deal

Another body for the bench. Can't expect him to see much game time.

Day 20

No Activity

Day 21

Brooklyn Nets sign Steve Nash on a 1 year/1.2mil deal

Steve wants a title, and I want to help him win it. A very experience backup PG and a very welcome addition to the team.

Rookie Options

I have taken up the 2014 Option on Thomas Robinson's contract.

Holy hell. If Ravanelli is anywhere near as good as the scouts say he is, then that's beast as hell. I'd say your concern here is how does Robinson handle the switch to the 3, can Konovalev rebound at the NBA level, and do Nash/Carter have anything left in the tank? Depth is also a concern, any injury to the frontcourt could decimate you.

Yeah depth is definately the problem. Pre-season preview has me ranked as the best team in the east. Of course Lebron is missing the first half of the season though which didnt help Miami's ranking. Ravanelli looks every bit the real deal I gotta say. I've simmed the first few games and he's been very good, especially his distribution.

In fact i'll post now both rookie's stats.

Francesco Ravanelli

Current - 4.5
Potential - 5

Current/Potential

Inside Shooting - 7/8
Outside Shooting - 10/10

FT Shooting - 4/6
Scoring - 8/10
Passing - 6/8
Handling - 5/7
Off Reb - 3/3
Def Reb - 6/7
Def. Ability - 4/6
Blocking - 2/4
Stealing - 10/10
Drawing Fouls - 5/6
Discipline - 7/9
Intelligence - 4/5
Endurace - 1/1

Obviously the key worry there is endurance!

Viktor Konovalev

Current - 3.5
Potential - 3.5

Inside Shooting - 10/10

Outside Shooting - 5/5
FT Shooting - 5/6
Scoring - 5/5
Passing - 2/2
Handling - 2/3
Off Reb - 6/7
Def Reb - 5/6
Def. Ability - 5/6
Blocking - 6/7
Stealing - 3/4
Drawing Fouls - 4/6
Discipline - 4/5
Intelligence - 2/3
Endurace - 3/3

It's obvious what he's best at, and he's not going to be a rebound king that's for sure. But he's a very good option off the bench to grab some more points. And we have Blake, Dwight and Robinson all very good rebounders so I think we will be alright with that.

Endurance and discipline, at least for the first few years. Low defense, high stealing and middling discipline means he'll be in foul trouble quite a bit. I'd look for him to probably play 24-28 minutes per game this upcoming season.
