February Player of the Month – Mark Lewis, Utah Jazz – 26.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 3.1 blocks per game.
February Rookie of the Month – Lance Ellis, San Diego Riders – 16.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.0 blocks per game.
We start the month with a heart stopping 120-115 win as Boston roared back from double digits in the last quarter to nearly snatch the win but we held on, just. Sean Gilmore was the high man with 34 points while Jacob Alexander had 23 points in the win. Varlam Chavchavadze led the way for the Celtics with 32 points while Raul Lopez wasn’t far behind with 24 points and 14 rebounds.
Dallas Mavericks 48-9
That’s more like it. The first quarter against the Spurs was like an All Star game as the score was 47-34 in our favour. Marcus Randle stepped up with 26 points and 17 rebounds as seven Maverick players were in double figures, led by Iman Shumpert, David Forney and Ryan Robinson combining for 39 points off the bench. Vitaly Ekomov led the way for San Antonio with 23 points as Marco Barker had 10 assists off the bench.
Dallas Mavericks 49-9
Will it be 50 wins or 10 losses first in our away game against Minnesota? Unfortunately Enrique Mendez put that 50 win scenario out of our minds with 40 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds as the Wolves torched us 125-112. Brad Beal is playing a supersub type role and did it to perfection, with 25 points in only 24 minutes. Camah Williams didn’t play a minute though. Our best was Marcus Randle with 25 points and 10 rebounds while Iman Shumpert put up 17 points in 17 minutes.
Dallas Mavericks 49-10
It didn’t take us long to notch our 50th win, with a 131-84 smattering of Utah behind Matt Brown’s spectacular 18 points, 15 assists and 7 steals. What makes it better for Brown is that it was against his old buddy Jevin Lindeman, who had 0 points and 4 turnovers in the game. David Forney is showing his importance off the bench with 16 points in 13 minutes, similar to what Sean Gilmore did last season. Derrick Favors had 17 points and 12 rebounds while Mark Lewis was held to only 13 points and 9 rebounds. To make matters worse for the Jazz is that those two guys combined for 11 turnovers in the game.
Dallas Mavericks 50-10
Poor DeMarcus Cousins. He left a terrible Sacramento team to join a now terrible New York team, who are sitting at 17-44. He had 15 points and 13 rebounds but added eight turnovers and went 4/14 from the field. Promising youngster Vlado Prazina had a worse game with a 0/4 shooting night for only 2 points. So where did their scoring come from? It didn’t, as Jamal Howell top scored with 19 points as they shot 29% from the field to our 55% as we annihilated them 123-69 as the benches were cleared early. Joe Duggins had a great game with 20 points and 15 rebounds as we had eight players in double figures. Just a brutal game for any New York fans watching; I’m sure they would want me back now.
Dallas Mavericks 51-10
Andre Drummond had 33 points and 9 rebounds while Marcus Randle had 25 points and 11 rebounds but it was Matt Brown who led us to a 133-99 away win over Phoenix. Our quarter time lead was 41-28 and that ballooned to 72-47 as Brown added 14 points and 20 assists on 5/6 shooting to negate the leading assist man in the NBA Reggie Dobbins to only 12 points and 14 assists.
Dallas Mavericks 52-10
Our biggest lead against the Riders was 61 points as we scored over 30 points in all but the first but they didn’t get to 20 points in any of the quarters as we roll on 125-64. Marcus Randle was again our best with 22 points and 13 rebounds as Iman Shumpert had 18 points off the bench. Jimmy Forrest was the only San Diego player in double figures with 22 points but he added eight turnovers. Hell, the rest of the team shot a terrible 14/64 or 21%. Imagine what they would have been like if Forrest wasn’t there.
Dallas Mavericks 53-10
It was a race to player of the game between Marcus Randle and Jacob Alexander in our 136-88 victory over Brooklyn. Randle had 27 points and 7 rebounds but it was Alexander who took the nod with 26 points, 6 rebounds and 6 steals. Blake Griffin showed that he can still bring it with 10 points and 10 rebounds off the bench but at 35 years old he is definitely over the hill. It’s good to see Lars Ray starting, and had 16 points in the loss.
Dallas Mavericks 54-10
Andre Drummond had 29 points and 12 rebounds as we ride a hot shooting 29-14 last quarter to get past Golden State 111-94. Iman Shumpert has been a godsend off the bench lately and tonight he had 17 points in 19 minutes. The Buzzsaw led the Warriors with 21 points and Willis Owens put up 13 points and 13 rebounds trying to guard Drummond.
Dallas Mavericks 55-10
We’re on a roll at the moment and when this team is rolling it’s hard to stop. The Nuggets worked that out as we kept on rolling with a 121-99 win in the Mile High City. Jacob Alexander had 32 points but it was all Matt Brown, putting up 11 points, 24 assists, 7 rebounds and 4 steals in the win. Chris Drexler fouled Marcus Randle out in only 16 minutes on his way to 31 points and 11 rebounds, but he did only shoot 9/21 from the field.
Dallas Mavericks 56-10
I’m such an idiot. Why did I have to open my big mouth and talk about how we’re rolling, and you can’t stop us and such rubbish? Anyway, our rolling came to a brick wall by the name of San Diego as the Riders pipped us at the post with a 123-122 win. Stefan Nitschke was great with 26 points and Lance Ellis showed how good a rookie can be this season with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Hell that was all without Jimmy Forrest who only played 19 minutes because of foul trouble. That was because of Andre Drummond’s 30 points and 8 rebounds as we shot better than the Riders (50% to 46%) but they went to the line much more than us and actually hit their free throws (39/45, 87%).
Dallas Mavericks 56-11
We get back to our winning ways against the other team in that massive trade, as we beat up Milwaukee 114-103. Marcus Randle stood up for 27 points and 8 rebounds while Matt Brown added 19 points and 14 assists in the win. Christopher de Castro had a strange night, going 6/19 for 15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 turnovers. Raoul Dumas was the best with 22 points in the loss.
Dallas Mavericks 57-11
Without Raoul Dumas or Brad Beal the Hawks are in freefall, sitting near the bottom with only 12 wins on their belt. It didn’t get any better against us as we push them further down with a 115-99 away victory. Andre Drummond, Marcus Randle and Sean Gilmore combine for 73 points, 28 rebounds and 7 blocks in the win for a truly dominant front court display. Matt Fergerson and Anthony Allison combined for 44 points in the loss but they are very much in rebuilding mode.
Dallas Mavericks 58-11
In a very uneventful game, we beat the Cavs 107-86 as Sean Gilmore led the way with 22 points. David Forney had 13 points in 12 minutes off the bench but other than that it was a snoozer. Ron Winston is now starting at PG *giggle* and had 18 points and 1 assist *giggle*. DUMBEST MOVE EVER.
Dallas Mavericks 59-11
Our last game for March is a 120-93 win over Orlando has Andre Drummond stole the show with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Matt Brown was close to a triple double with 9 points, 12 assists and 9 rebounds but was guarded all the way by Nashon Smith who had 17 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds.
Dallas Mavericks 60-11
After another great month we are now 13 games in front of Portland and seven games in front of New Orleans for the best record in the league, and with only 11 games left in the season it’s nearly time to rest some starters. That Durant/Chase trade has worked out pretty well for Portland I think. Houston and Nevada are close behind at 46-26. Oklahoma City have bottomed out and are now at 17-52. I’m guessing they will be close to a full rebuild soon.
As I said the Hornets are our closest rivals at 56-18 while Cleveland are at 48-28 in second place. Atlanta are at the bottom of the league at 12-63, 12 games behind second last placed New York.

Last Round of NBA Draft Prospects
1. (1) PG Cort Majishun (Washington), Freshman, 6’3”, 187lbs
2. (NR) PF Terry McKenzie (UCLA), Junior, 6’10”, 256lbs
3. (3) SG Mike Bickerstaf (Illinois), Freshman, 6’6”, 186lbs
4. (4) SG Kenneth Long (Texas), Freshman, 6’5”, 205lbs
5. (NR) SG Chris Canal (North Carolina), Sophomore, 6’3”, 207lbs
Thoughts – Yes, Marius White has changed his name to “Cort Majishun”, could be a new Metta World Peace. I still like Bickerstaf but McKenzie is the readymade player in this draft. Out of the top five I like #7 Chris “Wizard” Jones out of England and #9 Jack Dawkins out of Fairfield. The reason why Jones is out of the top five is that he is in England and there isn’t much coverage of a 19 year old across the pond while Dawkins has the most potential of this draft but he is extremely raw. Think Tiburcio Tommasini who dropped to #7 in his draft because of his greenness but is now averaging 20 points a game in his second season. Maybe not that much but Dawkins has the potential to get close.
