Game #28 - Conference Tournament Semifinals

Postby randy » Wed Jul 17, 2013 8:25 am

3/3/96: (4) Texas St (16-12, 7-7) @ (1) #10 Sam Houston St (25-2, 12-2)
TEXST is -6 in team prestige

Scouting Report
1. Primary defense: M2M
2. Offense focus: Inside
3. Key players: Fr C Kenyon Richardson (10.3 ppg), Fr C Jean Goodwin (12.8 ppg, 5.8 rpg)
4. We beat them twice this season, 74-60 and 80-42. Our 2-3 zone has been effective against TEXST on both games

Initial instructions
1. Offense Sets / Focus: Auto / Balanced
2. Offense Pace / Freedom: 7 / 65%
3. Off / Def Rebounding Crash: 9 / 8
4. Defense Sets / Intensity: 2-3 zone / 8
5. Pressure Set / Frequency: Auto / 9
Tip off (1st Half)

15:59, Up 5-1
Both teams horrible from the field. We're at 1-6 FG, while TEXST is 0-2 FG plus 3 turn overs. F Griffin has 2 fouls

11:29, Up 11-7
TEXST slowing down the pace, using up most of their shot clock. Thomas now with 2 fouls also. My starting back court both on the bench

6:58, Up 19-11
3:38, Up 23-17
Still a slow-paced game. Both teams have not hit a 3PT shot. I will gamble on putting back F Griffin and Thomas

Halftime, Up 29-27
TEXST scored the last 5 pts of the half, and in the blink of eye, we only have a 2 pt lead. Burditt with 11 pts; Rowles with 6 pts and 7 rebs

The 2 TEXST big men were not much of a factor offensively, but their perimeter guys just hit enough shots to keep themselves in the game

Will increase off pace to 8 in the 2nd half

Start of 2nd Half

15:52, up 37-33
Rowles found some success operating in the post, as he scored 6 of our first 8 pts in the half. I will switch to m2m defense, as TEXST continues to shoot well from the outside

11:43, Up 42-37
We had the lead stretched to 9, but TEXST's Goodwin scored 4 straight pts to cut our lead to 5. On the next play, Goodwin picked up his 4th foul, and he's back on the bench. We seem to have more success going inside, so we'll switch focus to Favor Inside

7:41, Up 54-44
Our subs, in particular Slater and Jeffries, contributing huge baskets during the last 4 minute stretch while Burditt was resting on the bench.

5:52, Up 59-44
Thomas getting 5 straight pts to extend our current scoring run to 10-0

3:48, Up 63-46
Rowles having a good game, 18 pts and 11 rebs

Final score: Texas St - 54, Sam Houston St - 70

Box Score
Rowles 18, 12, 0 (*)
Burditt 18, 4, 0, 2 blks
K Griffin 11, 6, 1, 2 stls
Thomas 8, 3, 6
Jeffries 7, 2, 2, 2 blks
Slater 5, 1, 2
Doss 3, 1, 3
F Griffin 0, 1, 2
Cook 0, 0, 2

REB: Even
TO: -9 (9-18)

Fast Break: Even
Other Notes
1. TEXST came prepared with a good game plan and executed it well. We were forced to make adjustments in the 2nd half, i.e. going man defense and focus on post plays, and fortunately it worked for us. That 10-0 run in the 2nd half (with Burditt on the bench) proved to be the turning point of this game.
2. The bench contributed once again. I am particularly pleased with Justin Jeffries' performance lately

Game #29 - Conference Tournament Finals

Postby randy » Wed Jul 17, 2013 9:45 am

3/4/96: (3) Central Arkansas (16-13, 8-6) @ (1) #11 Sam Houston St (26-2, 12-2)
UCA is -7 in team prestige

Scouting Report
1. Primary defense: M2M
2. Offense focus: Balanced
3. Key players: Sr SF Damian Dixon (16.2 ppg)
4. We beat them twice, 69-59 and 88-72. During the last game, Burditt shot the lights out at their home court with 33 pts (24 in the 1st half). We need to prevent Dixon from getting hot early

Initial instructions
1. Offense Sets / Focus: Auto / Balanced
2. Offense Pace / Freedom: 7 / 65%
3. Off / Def Rebounding Crash: 9 / 8
4. Defense Sets / Intensity: M2M / 8 (double on Dixon)
5. Pressure Set / Frequency: Auto / 9
Tip off (1st Half)

15:47, Up 10-2
We opened the game with a 10-0 run, before UCA scored their first points. UCA sending a "message" as they are playing physical defense on Burditt; he got hammered already at least 3 times. UCA with 5 team fouls

11:11, Up 20-7
UCA's Dixon has not even attempted a single FG; double team working well.

7:16, Up 26-11
Burditt must be bothered by the physical defense of UCA, as he is shooting only 1-7 FG. However, the rest of the team stepped up. K Griffin leading a balanced attack with 8 pts.

3:02, Up 34-16
It was Rowles turn to get some inside points; he has 12 pts

Halftime, Up 43-20
UCA has no chance of winning if they continue to shoot 31% from the floor. Rowles and K Griffin (22 combined pts) having a field day inside, outscoring the entire UCA team. UCA's Dixon is scoreless, 0-3 FG.

Start of 2nd Half

15:54, Up 52-28
UCA shooting a little better at the start of the half, but they cant still stop us on the interior

14:36, Up 52-35
UCA on a mini-run. Burditt continues to struggle, shooting 1-12 FG. I had to replace him

10:38, Up 55-42
UCA has slowly cut down our lead. I have to call a time out. We settled for long outside shots lately, so shifting the focus to Favor Inside.

7:19, Up 59-47
Lead was down to 10 earlier. I think we only scored 7 pts during the last 10 mins. Burditt is checking back in this game.

6:08, Up 64-47
A fast break layup off a UCA turnover, and finally a big 3 pt shot by Burditt.

3:49, Up 68-51
It's unlikely that UCA have enough time to catch us

2:19, Up 74-52
3 consecutive inside baskets by Rowles and K Griffin. It pretty sums up the story of the game. I empty the bench

Final score: Central Arkansas - 56, Sam Houston St - 82

Box Score
Rowles 22, 7, 2, 10-12 FG (*)
F Griffin 17, 8, 3
K Griffin 14, 6, 2, 3 stls
Burditt 8, 5, 3
Doss 6, 4, 2, 2 stls, 2 blks
Thomas 6, 1, 5
Jeffries 5, 3, 0
Slater 2, 1, 0
Cook 2, 0, 1
Willis 0, 0, 1
Team Stats Comparisons

REB: +1
TO: -9
Paint: +20 (44-20)
2nd Chance : +3
Fast Break: +11 (27-16)
Other Notes
1. The entire team is peaking up at the right time, prior to the NCAA tournament. Despite Burditt's 2-14 FG performance, we manage to win big against a dangerous opponent
2. We are definitely a much better team if our inside game clicks. Burditt is still our most important player, but I think Rowles and K Griffin's performances will dictate how we perform in the NCAA tournament
3. UCA's Damian Dixon did not get enough shots (8 pts, 3-7 FG)

Game #30 - NCAA 1st Round

Postby randy » Wed Jul 17, 2013 12:06 pm

3/4
None of my underclassmen declared for the draft. Burditt will be back for another year!

Charles Burditt named as finalist for the Norton award

3/17/96: (12) Mount St. Mary (22-7, 11-3) @ (5) #12 Sam Houston St (27-2, 12-2)
UCA is -7 in team prestige

Scouting Report
1. Primary defense: M2M
2. Offense focus: Outside (19.4 3PA)
3. Key players: Sr SF Lonni Glover (12.6 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 41% 3P), Jr SG Jeff Starkey (11.1 ppg)
4. Their only inside threat, Sr PF Kelyn Neal, is injured. So we figure they would rely on their outside shooting even more. Our big men may have an advantage in this game, so we'll try to go to the low post early

Initial instructions
1. Offense Sets / Focus: Favor Inside / Balanced
2. Offense Pace / Freedom: 7 / 50%
3. Off / Def Rebounding Crash: 9 / 8
4. Defense Sets / Intensity: M2M / 8
5. Pressure Set / Frequency: Auto / 9
Tip off (1st Half)

15:35, Up 10-5
The players have responded well with our game plan of going inside. It already resulted in 4 team fouls for MOUNT, resulting in 8 FTAs for us (we made 6)

11:44, Up 20-14
MOUNT hit a couple of 3s to keep the score close. K Griffin leads us with 7 pts and 4 rebs. MOUNT already on the penalty

8:45, Up 27-14
We had a 7-0 run; 4 by K Griffin down low, and a 3 by F Griffin. We have forced MOUNT to commit 9 turn overs already

3:41, Up 33-24
MOUNT tightened up their interior defense, and we struggle to hit our outside shots. Burditt is 1-7 FG. Outstanding contribution from Jeffries coming off the bench with 8 pts

Halftime, Up 42-32
We are getting more shot opportunities (+7 FGA, +8 FTA) due to MOUNT's 13 turn overs. That spelled the difference in the 1st half. I feel we are playing our style of game, but this is far from over.

K Griffin with 11 pts and 7 rebs. Burditt with 7 pts, 4 coming in the last 2 mins

MOUNT's Glover and Starkey has combined for only 8 pts, but it was their sub Chris Douglas leading them with 10 pts off the bench

Start of 2nd Half

14:55, Up 55-44
Trading baskets and mini-runs so far. Burditt has scored 6 pts in the half, upping his total to 13. Rowles picked up his 3rd foul early, and he's on the bench

10:39, Up 65-49
Our lead remains at 10, before Burditt hits back-to-back 3s! Burditt has 19 for the game.

7:31, Up 72-56
Lead was as high as 19. Giving Burditt some rest, before the final stretch

4:40, Up 78-62
All my starters are now on the floor

2:51, Up 84-62
No late rally in sight for MOUNT. In comes the bench. Game over

Final score: Mount St Mary - 71, Sam Houston St - 88

Box Score
Burditt 26, 2, 1, 2 stls, 2 blks (*)
K Griffin 15, 12, 0, 2 stls
Jeffries 11, 5, 1
Thomas 10, 4, 4, 3 stls
Rowles 10, 3, 0
Doss 6, 7, 1
F Griffin 6, 1, 6, 4 tos
Cook 3, 1, 0
Slater 1, 0, 1
Willis 0, 1, 0
FG: 52-52%
REB: +16

Paint: +14
2nd Chance : +15 (19-4)
Fast Break: +4
Other Notes
1. Very good offensive scoring balance. We established our inside game early, and Burditt finished them in the 2nd half
2. We took advantage of MOUNT's weakness at the front court; 14 off rebs resulting in 19 2nd chance pts
3. My only concern is our 16 turn overs, almost matching the 21 made by MOUNT. We need to cut down on this, if we want to go deep in this tournament

Our 2nd round opponent will be (4) #20 Michigan, who shared the regular season Big 10 title (with Indiana), but lost in the 1st round of the Big 10 tournament to Illinois

A shocker in the NCAA West Regionals. (16) Towson upset (1) Kansas, 69-59

Game #31 - NCAA 2nd Round

Postby randy » Thu Jul 18, 2013 2:59 am

3/19/96: (5) #12 Sam Houston St (27-2, 12-2) (4) #20 @ Michigan (22-9, 12-6)
UCA is -7 in team prestige

Scouting Report
1. Primary defense: M2M
2. Offense focus: Balanced
3. Key players: So SG Danny Perry (17.9 ppg, 4.0 rpg), So PG Marcue Larson (11.0 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 6.2 apg); both players ranked in the toip 25 of their class
4. Aside from their outstanding guards, their forward rotation is also very good. Perry and Larson combine for almost 5 3PTs per game, so going 2-3 zone may pose some risk. We'll see how we do with m2m defense initially. Clearly, this is our biggest test so far this season (and in my 3-yr coaching career)

Initial instructions
1. Offense Sets / Focus: Auto / Balanced
2. Offense Pace / Freedom: 7 / 50%
3. Off / Def Rebounding Crash: 9 / 8
4. Defense Sets / Intensity: M2M / 8
5. Pressure Set / Frequency: Auto / 9
Tip off (1st Half)

16:00, Up 11-5
MICH calling an early timeout. Rowles doing the damage on the low post (6 pts, 3-3 FG). MICH's Perry has 2 turn overs, and has yet to attempt a FG

10:48, Up 22-16
MICH's star guards continue to struggle; its their front court that is keeping them in the game. Thomas has hit 3 jumpers, and leads us with 7 pts. Burditt with 2 fouls, and forced to seat on the bench. We will shift to 2-3 zone

4:26, Up 33-28
Bench players Slater and Jeffries have each scored 5 pts for us. I put Burditt back in

Halftime, Up 48-37
Our offense towards the end of the half. F Griffin hits 2 outside shots, Burditt scoring 4 pts (and prevented committing his 3rd foul), and Rowles (10 pts, 4 rebs) continue to score inside.

MICH's Larson and Perry combine only for 7 pts (3-11 FG). We'll continue with the 2-3 zone, unless they start hitting outside shots

MICH has shown it can also score bunches in this game. So we have to sustain our level of intensity on both sides of the court.

Start of 2nd Half

15:33, Up 56-48
We will go back to m2m defense, as MICH started to connect on their 3s.

11:43, Up 63-56
MICH's Danny Perry (9 pts) beginning to get his stroke from the perimeter

7:54, Up 68-62
We will start doubling on Perry. Burditt has yet to score in the 2nd half; he still has time to start waxing hot

Both teams trading turn overs. Burditt has missed 3 consecutive shots. But I told him to keep shooting, and it will fall. On the last possession, he finally buried a jumper after a long while.

6:18, Up 70-62

A steal by Jeffries leads to a transition layup by Thomas (13 pts)

5:53, Up 72-62

We got called for a foul on the other end, but MICH missed both FTs.
Burditt missed another shot.
Another steal by Jeffries (3 stls). Thomas receives the pass on the break. Rowles running as trailer; he gets the pass and slams it home!
A 6-0 run in the last 3 mins. MICH calls a time out.

4:55, Up 74-62

A miss by MICH. Rowles with the def rebound
Thomas sets up the play. He gives it to Rowles on the low post. Rowles makes his move. Spins to his right, and puts up a shot. Rowles rattles on home plus a foul! He makes the bonus FT. 9-0 run. We're looking good, but there is an eternity of basketball left to play

4:29, Up 77-62

MICH gets a basket. Burditt missing again on our end. MICH got fouled on the next play. 2 FTs. Made them both. I called a time out. Reminded the team to keep their focus

3:30, Up 77-66

We give it to Rowles on the post. He can't get a shot. Gives it back to Thomas. Thomas got fouled by Larson (4th foul). MICH has 8 team fouls. 1-and-1. Thomas hits both pressure-packed FTs

3:01, Up 79-66

MICH broke our press for an easy basket. I will adjust Press Frequency to 1. We're up by 9

Burditt with another miss (4-17 FG). MICH rebounds. But Jeffries with another steal. Outlet to K Griffin who throws down a jam!

2:23, Up 81-68

Another steal. This time by Rowles

We used up some of the shot clock.
MICH comes up with a steal. They couldn't convert on their possession. Rowles with another def rebound. I called a timeout. Slow down the game

MICH not fouling. With 7 secs on the shot clock, Rowles gets the pass on the inside. He makes his move, and throws down a facial against his defender. What a monster game by Rowles

0:56, Up 83-68

Sweet 16, here we go!

Final score: Sam Houston St - 83, Michigan - 73

Box Score
Rowles 21, 8, 0, 9-10 FG (*)
Thomas 15, 3, 10
F Griffin 13, 4, 6, 3 stls
K Griffin 10, 4, 1
Burditt 8, 2, 1
Jeffries 7, 3, 3, 4 stls
Slater 5, 2, 0
Doss 4, 2, 0
FG: 49-51%

Paint: +16 (42-26)

Other Notes
1. As mentioned before, our results in this tournament depends on how our big men perform. Today, it was Rowles who provided our muscle inside. Guards F Griffin and Thomas' outside shots offset the sub par performance of Burditt. Good performance also by Jeffries on the defensive end.
2. MICH's Danny Perry picked up his scoring the 2nd half, finishing with a decent 14 pts. But his back court partner, Marcue Larson, did not have a good game: 5 pts, 2-8 FG, 3 asts, 6 turn overs

Game #32 - Regionals Semifinals (Sweet 16)

Postby randy » Thu Jul 18, 2013 3:36 pm

3/24/96: (5) #12 Sam Houston St (29-2, 12-2) vs (9) Purdue (18-13, 11-7)
Purdue has a team prestige of 64 (we're only 10). This is Purdue's 6th appearance in the Sweet 16. They have never won an NCAA championship, but has made the Final Four twice. This is Sam Houston's 2nd appearance in the Sweet 16

Scouting Report
1. Primary defense: M2M
2. Offense focus: Balanced
3. Key players: Fr SF Jamie Snyder (11.7 ppg, 5.1 rpg). No dominant scorer, but they have 7 players who is averaging at least 8 ppg. In their Round of 32 match against Towson, Jr PG Jerald Hedrick (a 5-5 pint-sized guard) made 6 3s.
4. We'll start with a 2-3 zone, and adjust accordingly. Also , Purdue has a small lineup - their tallest player on their regular rotation is Snyder who plays the 3. We'll use Favor Inside

Initial instructions
1. Offense Sets / Focus: Auto / Favor Inside
2. Offense Pace / Freedom: 7 / 50%
3. Off / Def Rebounding Crash: 9 / 8
4. Defense Sets / Intensity: 2-3 zone / 8
5. Pressure Set / Frequency: Auto / 9
Tip off (1st Half)

15:07, Up 8-4
We have 3 turn overs, while PUR has 4. Both of PUR's field goals were transition baskets, so we'll lower our off reb intensity to 7. PUR is missing their outside shots, so we'll continue the 2-3 zone

11:13, Up 13-10
PUR is 0-6 from 3PT. On offense, our big men have not really dominated. I am thinking of switching to a more balanced offense, but not yet

7:45, Up 19-12
Both teams shooting below 40% FG; PUR is missing their outside shots, while we can't connect from the inside

4:04, Up 23-21
PUR making a run after they converted their first 3. We need more touches and shot attempts from our perimeter players, so I'm switching to Balanced offense

Halftime, Tied at 29
Both teams shooting below 40% FG + 10 turn overs each = a low scoring tied ball game. PUR's majority of their pts came from their fast breaks (15 pts). Burditt has to be more aggressive on offense (5 pts, 2-5 FG)

Start of 2nd Half

13:53, Tied at 45
PUR opened up the half on 5-0 run, connecting on 2 outside shots. We switched to m2m defense. We responded with a 5-0 run of our own, and it has been a see-saw battle since then. PUR's diminutive guard Jerald Hedrick now has 11 pts, while our big men Rowles and K Griffin beginning to flex their muscles inside - both are double figures in scoring

10:34, Down 47-52
We just committed our 13th turn over. Burditt continues to struggle on 3-10 shooting, and I had to replace him at the 13:00 mark. He'll be back later, but I told him to just relax and let the game come to him.

8:54, Down 47-54
3 turn overs on our next 3 possessions. I had to call a time out. I had to let them know of my disappointment. I bring back Burditt

PUR: Miss
SAM: An inside bucket by Rowles
PUR: Another miss
SAM: Thomas hitting a jumper

7:43, Down 51-54

PUR: A clutch 3 by Hedrick
SAM: A miss by Jeffries. Off rebound by Thomas. Pass to Jeffries, and then to Rowles. Short jumper by Rowles is good
PUR: They break our press, and scores an easy basket
SAM: Drive to the basket by Burditt is good

6:26, Down 55-59

PUR: Foul by Jeffries on the act of shooting. Makes both. Down 6
SAM: Thomas connecting on another jumper. Down 4
PUR: Hedrick gets away from Thomas, but he took too many steps (traveling)

I put back K Griffin to replace Doss. My entire starting lineup is on the floor except for F Griffin who has 0 pts, 4 asts, and 7 turn overs. Jeffries remain on the floor, which allows me to put Burditt on his natural "2" position

SAM: Thomas miss a 3
PUR: Foul on Rowles. It's our 8th team foul. Their C Ezra Masic (13 pts) makes both. Down 6
SAM: Miss by Burditt. Off rebound. Another miss
PUR: Miss
SAM: A jumper by Burditt (11 pts)

4:06, Down 59-63

PUR: A big 3 by Derek Burns, who prior to that shot, was 1-7 FG. I called a timeout

3:36, Down 59-66

SAM: K Griffin with an inside basket. Down 5
PUR: Turnover
SAM: Burditt's shot was rejected, and PUR regains possession
PUR: Shot attempt was blocked by Jeffries. PUR recovered but missed their shot. Rebounded by Jeffries (8 rebs), who is providing quality minutes yet again

SAM: Thomas scores (14 pts). Down 3
PUR: Jeffries with a steal
SAM: Burditt missing a 3. That could have been a big basket
PUR: K Griffin with a steal
SAM: Outlet to Jeffries, who scores on the break

1:27, Down 65-66

PUR not calling a time out

PUR: Foul on K Giffin against PUR's David Erskin. Its our 9th team foul. Erskin splits his charities. I called a timeout

1:13, Down 65-67

I praised and used my every ounce of motivational skills, telling them that they can still win this

SAM: Thomas has the ball. Pass to Burditt. Burditt dribbles and stops for a jumper. Burditt had a good look, but could not convert (5-16 FG)

No need to foul. Just play good D, and we'll have the ball back

PUR: They shoot a quick 3. Miss. I called my last timeout

0:49, Down 65-67

Should we continue giving the ball to Burditt? Or should we pound it inside to Rowles / K Griffin? I decided we go Heavy Inside on a motion offense.

Our season is on the line here. Fans are up on their seats. Here we go

SAM: Thomas dribbles on top of the key. He gives it to Rowles. Rowles makes his move. Rowles takes a shot and scores!

0:42, Tied at 67

I am shouting at the sidelines, "dont foul, dont foul"

PUR: They move the ball around, trying to find a good shot. Erskin gets the pass down low. He puts up a shot. Miss. K Griffin with the def rebound. We have no time outs remaining

0:21, Tied at 67

SAM: Thomas with pass to Burditt. Burditt makes his move. He drives hard to basket. Miss the shot but got fouled by Erskin. Burditt will be shooting the most important FTs of his career

Miss the 1st

Miss the 2nd

0:10 left

PUR: Erskin takes the final shot. Miss. K Griffin with rebound. We go to overtime

I'll give Jeffries and Rowles a short breather as they are exhausted. Which means we start OT with a small 3-guard lineup (F Griffin, Thomas, and Burditt)

I patted Burditt on the shoulders, telling him that it's ok, we are still in the game.

End of Regulation, Tied at 67
If I'm not mistaken, this is my first OT game in my 3 year career so far

Start of OT

We won the jump ball

SAM: Burditt gets the pass at the right corner. Puts up a 3. Bingo!. Up 3. We haven't lead for quite some time in this game. Burditt has 14 pts
PUR: Reggie Madison missing a pull up J. And its Burditt who grabs the rebound
SAM: F Griffin with a pass inside to K Griffin. K Griffin goes up for the slam!

4:04, Up 72-67

PUR: They miss a 3. Burditt with another rebound
SAM: PUR with a steal off K Griffin
PUR: Foul by F Griffin on Hedrick. Hedricks hits both (16 pts)

I bring back Jeffries (for defense) and Rowles (for inside scoring)

3:18, Up 72-69

SAM: Thomas and Burditt with a 2-man game. Burditt called for traveling.
PUR: They turned the ball over also, on a bad pass
SAM: They fouled Thomas. Only the 6th team foul for PUR (no FTs). On the next play, Burditt's shot was blocked. PUR recover the ball
PUR: Erskin scores.

I only have 1 time out remaining. I decided not to use it yet

2:04, Up 72-71

SAM: Thomas gives the ball to Burditt beyond the arc. Burditt puts up a shot. It's good. Burditt's 2nd 3 in OT (17 pts)

1:54, Up 75-71

PUR: They got the ball inside, and scores.

1:41, Up 75-73

SAM: Thomas missing an outside shot. But K Griffin with the off board and the putback (18 pts, 11 rebs)

1:22, up 77-73

PUR: They connected on a 3. PUR keeps coming back

0:54, Up 77-76

SAM: Thomas pass to Burditt. Burditt to Rowles down low. Rowles puts up a shot. Miss. But another off rebound by K Griffin. We reset the play. Thomas to Burditt. Pass to Rowles. Give and go to Burditt. Burditt drives, and hits the bank shot. Burditt has 19 pts (8 in OT)

Timeout by PUR

I will switch to a 1-2-2 zone, trying to prevent a 3 pt shot

0:23, Up 79-76

PUR: Snyder with the ball beyond the arc. He elected to pass to Erskin down low. Steal by Rowles!
SAM: Outlet to Thomas who is ahead of everybody else. Thomas with the jam! Pandemonium in the crowd. We will play in the Regional Finals to get a shot at the Final Four

Final score: Sam Houston St - 81, Purdue - 76
What a game! No one wanted to quit. It's a pity that someone has to lose. I congratulated each Purdue player for a very good game.

Other Notes
1. Most people would have thought that our run will end, being down 59-66 with 3:30 left in regulation. We outscored PUR 22-10 since then.
2. Keyon Griffin deserves his player of the game award, but Charles Burditt went from "zero to hero" in this game. Burditt missed what could have been the winning FTs in regulation, but was able to make it up big time during OT
3. After giving up 15 fast break points in the 1st half, we limited PUR to only 4 during the 2nd half and OT combined
