New York, New York! Bringing a championship home

Postby zike_42 » Tue May 27, 2014 3:32 am

February Player of the Month – Jason London, Washington Wizards – 34.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.8 blocks per game.

February Rookie of the Month – Paul Gilbert, San Antonio Spurs – 17.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.7 blocks per game.

Some decent trades at the deadline, nothing earth shattering but some solid deals.

Chicago trade:
C Ryan Wadley

Phoenix trade:
SG Greg Lavin

Winner – Phoenix. Not a good trade for either as both players are 34 years old and not very good any more but at least Wadley has a team option next season unlike Lavin who has two full years left.

Dallas trade:
C PJ Zimmerman
C Jason Fredrick
SG Jason Allen
SF Quinn Kelly

Detroit trade:
PG Brandon Oliver
2036 2nd round pick

Winner – Dallas. Fredrick and Kelly aren’t with the Pistons any more and the other two are downright terrible. Oliver on the other hand is now slotted as the Mavericks starting shooting guard. ‘Nuff said.

Indiana trade:
PG Marlon Izzo

New York trade:
SF Mike Joseph
2036 2nd round pick

Winner – Indiana. Joseph is now starting at SF while Izzo is the 12th man for a terrible, terrible Knicks squad. Another blunder by New York and another steal from the Pacers.

Chicago trade:
PG Leroy Nolan

Toronto trade:
PF Bill Parker
2036 2nd round pick

Winner – Toronto. Even though Parker is an $8 million expiring contract, Nolan is a much better asset. He’s injured now with a bruised thigh but when he gets better he’ll slot into the starting PG position.

As much as Memphis has been bad this season they gave us a huge scare as neither team had a double digit lead. We sneak past them 122-118 behind Cort and Ken’s 66 points and 17 assists to save us. All five starters for the Grizz were over a dozen points while Anthony Allison had 20 points in 20 minutes. This was a scare that we need to learn from and put past us.

Brooklyn Nets 53-9

No such luck for Memphis when they came to our home a few days later as we stomp them early and often to breeze 121-87. Cort was amazing with 37 points and 9 three pointers while Matias had 10 points and 3 assists in only 6 minutes. Rashon Tart had 19 points but didn’t get any help from his friends.

Brooklyn Nets 54-9

We push past another below average team to beat the Lakers 126-97. Cort had his third game over 32 points with 36 points and 11 assists with Ken adding 23 points and 7 assists. Lars Ray and Jim Meeking combined for 50 points but no other Laker had a double digit game.

Brooklyn Nets 55-9

The Wizards have been firing since they got the headcase Jason London, scoring well over 120 points on multiple occasions. They had 127 points in our game as London went 22/27 for 55 points and 6 rebounds but they still lost as we score 139 points to win. Cort had 31 points as six other Nets were in double figures, highlighted by Abel Williams’ 11 points in 11 minutes.

Brooklyn Nets 56-9

Cort Majishun’s output in the month of March has been 32, 37, 36, 31 and now 33 points as we sneak past the Sixers in a scrappy affair 107-103. Robert Jackson filled in for Marlin and Sal who both fouled out with 15 points and 5 rebounds while Luigi added 9 rebounds. The reason those two fouled out was Justin Robinson and Robert Williams who combined for 44 points on 20/27 free throws.

Brooklyn Nets 57-9

Another dodgy team gets the once over by us as we smash the Knicks 108-96. Cort’s run over 30 points or more ends but he still finishes with 28 points as Marlin and Ken combine for 39 points. Dave Coulter led New York with 18 points while Chris Jones shot 4/15 from the field for only 9 points and 5 rebounds.

Brooklyn Nets 58-9

That’s 15 wins in a row as we outlast the Rockets 122-113 as Cort gets back to his best with 36 points and 8 assists but he gets a friend in Marlin with 24 points and 14 rebounds. The last few games it’s been Cort watching and getting the scraps when he can’t score. Curtis Anderson had 15 points in 12 minutes. Cameron Brown is a bonafide superstar now and had 30 points in the loss.

Brooklyn Nets 59-9

I asked this question a while ago when we were 49-9 but will it be our 60th win or our 10th loss against the Sixers? Well Cort had 34 points and 7 rebounds as we blow out Philly 117-92 to get our 60th. Ken added 24 points and Sal and Luigi put up 24 points and 14 rebounds between them. Tom Bryant outplayed everyone on Philly’s roster with 22 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds off the bench.

Brooklyn Nets 60-9

Well damn. I know we need to lose every now and again but when we lose our tenth game to a pretty average Kings outfit it hurt a tiny bit, going down 126-122. Cort fouled out with 39 points and 13 assists while Sal and Marlin had 10/10 and 11/11 respectively. It was the Kings starting five who did the job, scoring 103 points with Jaymes Kincaid leading the way with 26 points. It seems that Kincaid and Joe Adras can work together, for the time being at least.

Brooklyn Nets 60-10

That’s two losses in a row, the first time since late December as the Pacers take us out 124-111. Ish Faye was spectacular with 31 points and 14 rebounds while Gerrod Phelan added 32 points on worse shooting. Cort was our best again with 22 points and 12 assists but Sal and Marlin were held all night because of foul shooting and our bench didn’t pick up the slack.

Brooklyn Nets 60-11

This team seems to have put the cruise control on which just isn’t on as we haven’t got home court advantage yet as we lose again, this time to the Suns 124-114. Pete Anderson went 12/15 for 27 points while Tony Solverson, the point guard that no one wanted, had 16 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists in the win. Ken was our best with 28 points but we shot 40% to their 52%.

Brooklyn Nets 60-12

What is going on?!? That’s four losses in a row, all at home as the Pacers outrun us 134-129. Michael Harmon was the star this time with 29 points, 13 assists and 6 steals but was helped by Ish Faye and Josiah Williams’ 54 points and 18 rebounds. We had eight players in double figures but our leader only had 9 points and 5 turnovers. We need to turn this form around and fast as I want our stars to have as much rest as possible before the playoffs.

Brooklyn Nets 60-13

What. Reggie Smith had 33 points and 10 rebounds as the freaking Grizzlies beat us for our fifth loss in a row 116-109. What.

Brooklyn Nets 60-14

Phew. I shouldn’t say phew I should say about damn time. Jason London goes 25/39 for 59 points but we limited everyone else to win 109-98. Curtis Anderson and Abel Williams start for John Brown and Salvador Rios and even though Curtis had a rough night (guarding London is rough for anyone) Abel did quite well with 8 points and 8 rebounds. Cort was our best with 20 points, 12 assists and 8 rebounds. I can’t believe how good Jason London has done in Washington as that’s his third 50+ point game in March alone!

Brooklyn Nets 61-14

With seven games to go we can’t be caught even though we tried our hardest to get caught. We have a nine game lead over Miami in the East and a seven game lead over Dallas in the West so we will have at least a tie of HCA if we lose all seven games. Indiana are a half game back of Miami with Charlotte on the bottom of the East at 17-57. Minnesota and OKC are six games back of Dallas while the Spurs have taken the last spot away from the Lakers at 24-48.

Last Round of NBA Draft Prospects
1. PG Gamal Hicks (Houston), Freshman, 6’4”, 203lbs
2. C Shaheen Mason (Western Kentucky), Sophomore, 6’10”, 273lbs
3. C BJ Watson (High Point), Freshman, 6’9”, 263lbs
4. SF James Carroll (Florida State), Freshman, 6’5”, 195lbs
5. SG Andre Betts (Tennessee), Freshman, 6’2”, 194lbs

Thoughts – That top three will probably be the top three at the draft but the guy everyone has been talking about is the sixth ranked Ryan Cornell, a point guard out of Michigan State. He’s 6’4” and a freshman and is averaging 23.7 points, 10.3 assists and 9.0 rebounds per game for the Spartans. Ridiculous numbers and should be in the running for a top five spot.

March Player of the Month – Jason London, Washington Wizards – 38.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.3 blocks per game.

March Rookie of the Month – Anthony Coley, Golden State Warriors – 15.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.4 blocks per game.

We can’t be beaten for HCA so Cort, Ken and Marlin all get to sit for the last seven games. So say hello to our new starting line-up of Matias Perez/Curtis Anderson/John Brown/Abel Williams/Salvador Rios.

Our first game is a loss as the Nuggets shoot 60% from the field to torch us 125-104. Jason Harriman and Leon Oliver had 41 points and 21 rebounds between them as our best was Matias with 18 points and 8 assists. Luigi had 10 points and Ben Herrion added 14 points off the bench but this was done and dusted at half time.

Brooklyn Nets 61-15

Hey, we get a win! Against a really good team in Atlanta IN Atlanta 116-103. A 45-33 third quarter will do that. Curtis was electric with 25 points and 8 assists while all five starters were in double figures. Michael McQuay has a broken finger and won’t be back for about three weeks as Chip Hickerson led them with 19 points.

Brooklyn Nets 62-15

It was another away win over a decent team as we had four standouts in our 113-107 win over Minnesota Curtis Anderson may have led the scoring with 30 points and 7 assists but Matias was the star with 25 points, 10 assists, 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Sal added 20 points and 9 rebounds while Abel was our fourth with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Enrique Mendez led all scorers with 32 points and it’s great to see Isiah Ryan (who played in Brooklyn four years ago) starting for the Wolves and had 15 points in the loss.

Brooklyn Nets 63-15

Our winning streak was halted by a Nathaniel Jackson buzzsaw as the Utah star had 35 points to beat us 136-112. Tim Westbrooks added 19 points and 6 steals for the Jazz as well. Curtis A led us with 26 points and 9 rebounds but we had 20 turnovers for the game which is just too much.

Brooklyn Nets 63-16

It’s crazy that Curtis A is only a bench guy for us but he saw that we won the title last year and wanted one of them for himself and sacrificed his game for the team. He had 32 points as we beat the Riders 134-121 as Matias helped him out with 20 points and 10 assists. Cliff Havens was held to only 10 points as Mark Frazier led San Diego with 28 points.

Brooklyn Nets 64-16

It was Curtis A again that led us to a 100-92 win over the Warriors. He had 22 points and 9 rebounds while JB finally had a decent game with 16 points and 4 steals. Another one of my old guys, Akin Feaster, had 16 points in 17 minutes before fouling out.

Brooklyn Nets 65-16

Our last game was a disappointing 113-86 loss to Seattle on our home court. Yes we were missing our stars but the way we were going in April I thought we would put up a little more of a fight. Especially when Alfons Dietz was held to only 13 points. Eryk Charnowski was the killer with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Curtis A and Matias had 41 points, 16 assists and 8 steals but we shot 39% from the field and we just weren’t in it.

Brooklyn Nets 65-17

2036 NBA Playoffs

Eastern Conference
#1 Brooklyn vs. #8 New Orleans
#2 Indiana vs. #7 Atlanta
#3 Miami vs. #6 Cleveland
#4 Chicago vs. $5 Washington

Western Conference
#1 Dallas vs. #8 Sacramento
#2 Minnesota vs. #7 Denver
#3 Oklahoma City vs. #6 Utah
#4 Seattle vs. #5 Portland

We won the season series 2-1 and coming up against a 36-46 team we better not lose.

Eastern Conference First Round – New Orleans vs. Brooklyn

Point Guard
Vlado Prazina vs. Cort Majishun
17.1 points, 7.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds vs. 25.8 points, 8.3 assists, 4.5 rebounds

When Tiburcio Tommasini went down for the season 15 games in people were worried that there wasn’t going to be enough scoring on the team. They were wrong, as Majishun has stepped up his game to a MVP level to push this team through. Prazina is an excellent defender but nothing is stopping Majishun from his very best.

Winner - Brooklyn

Shooting Guard
Quinton Scott vs. Kenneth Long
8.6 points, 3.7 assists, 3.2 rebounds vs. 19.7 points, 4.5 assists, 5.6 rebounds

This is as big a mismatch as you can think of. One is a multiple All Star and All NBA player while the other is a 21 year old rookie that wouldn’t be the third guard off the bench at Brooklyn. Look for Long to have a huge series.

Winner - Brooklyn

Small Forward
Hilton Walker vs. John Brown
15.2 points, 3.1 assists, 6.4 rebounds vs. 11.9 points, 2.0 assists, 6.4 rebounds

Walker has been surprising as not many #46 picks in the draft are in the league, let alone starting for a playoff team and averaging 15 points and 6 rebounds. He will need to channel all of his underdog spirit to take out Brown who is a fantastic defender and would like nothing more than to take Walker down a peg.

Winner - Brooklyn

Power Forward
John Nemitz vs. Marlin Bain
8.7 points, 1.4 assists, 7.2 rebounds vs. 12.0 points, 0.5 assists, 6.9 rebounds

15 years ago John Nemitz was picked number one ahead of some great players like Marcus Randle, Hillar Petrauskas and Jimmy Forrest and even though Nemitz has had a successful career he wasn’t a superstar. Now he’s 34 years old and only a decent player. Marlin Bain is on the other end as he’s an up and comer who might not be the best scorer he is a great rebounder and defender that should run rings around the old man.

Winner - Brooklyn

Centre
Jerry Benton vs. Salvador Rios
19.6 points, 1.0 assist, 6.8 rebounds vs. 9.5 points, 0.8 assists, 6.7 rebounds

The only shining light for the Hornets, Benton will need to double his averages for NOH to stand a chance. He’s definitely an All Star talent but he just doesn’t have enough talent around him. Rios was the number one pick last draft and he should get a good lesson on how a great centre does things.

Winner – New Orleans

Bench
Chris Bailey, Matt Fergerson, Louis Rodgers vs. Curtis Anderson, Matias Perez, Curtis Mueller

Not only could Anderson, Perez and Mueller start for most teams in the league, Abel Williams could start for lottery teams. This Brooklyn bench is crazy deep and will destroy the wafer thin New Orleans second unit.

Winner – Brooklyn

Prediction – Brooklyn in four. The Nets are just too talented and too seasoned for the Hornets to be much of a threat.

Game one was pretty much spot on as four of our starters had 20 points or more as we cruise to a 115-96 win. Marlin was the star with 26 points and 14 rebounds and was ably assisted by JB (23 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks and 3 steals), Ken (21 points) and Cort (20 points, 12 assists). Sal was great as well as he held Jerry Benton to only 6 points and 1 rebound as Vlado Prazina had 26 points for the Hornets.

Brooklyn leads 1-0

Game two was much, much worse for the Hornets as our biggest lead was a whopping 47 points as we won 118-79. Cort had 36 points and 6 steals as everyone got plenty of court time. It was great to see Abel Williams get some burn with 6 points and 10 rebounds. Jerry Benton woke up with 22 points and 7 rebounds but Quinton Scott laid a goose egg, going 0/10 for 0 points.

Brooklyn leads 2-0

The second and fourth quarter blew out game three as the Hornets outscored us by 22 points in those terms to beat us 104-84. What? That’s right, Jerry Benton went 18/21 from the field for 37 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks as we shoot the worst we have shot all season at 31%. Our starters went 16/57 as Marlin was our only light with 17 points and 18 rebounds. We need to bounce back after this embarrassment.

Brooklyn leads 2-1

And bounce back we do, outscoring our opponents 82-47 in the second half to smash the Hornets 133-98. Marlin went off again with 29 points and 10 rebounds with Ken giving back up with 27 points. Jerry Benton is still trying his best with 23 points and 4 blocks but we shot 58% to their 43%.

Brooklyn leads 3-1

No sweeps this round but no tied series either, all of them are 3-1.

Losing at home was never going to happen as we take care of business early and often to win 126-103. Ken had 34 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists while Marlin had another double double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. JB went 8/12 for 22 points as you could point to anyone and say they did well. Jerry Benton went out swinging with 27 points and 10 rebounds but fouled out and looking exhausted.

Brooklyn wins 4-1

#1 Dallas, #2 Minnesota, #3 Miami and OKC and #5 Washington take their series’ 4-1 with only two remaining.

#2 Indiana took their series in the next game at 4-2 while #5 Portland needed a 30 point game from Tobe Slaughter to get past the #4 Sonics.

I've been away in Bali for my brother-in-law's wedding and didn't have much wifi so I couldn't say that this would be stopped for a while. I'm back into it though so check up the update below.

2036 NBA Playoffs

Eastern Conference
#1 Brooklyn vs. #5 Washington
#2 Indiana vs. #3 Miami

Western Conference
#1 Dallas vs. #5 Portland
#2 Minnesota vs. #3 Oklahoma City

We won our season series, even with the addition of Jason London who had over 50 points in the last two encounters.

Eastern Conference Semi-Finals – Washington vs. Brookyn

Point Guard
Kelly Pryor vs. Cort Majishun
13.8 points, 4.2 assists, 3.4 rebounds vs. 21.6 points, 9.0 assists, 3.8 rebounds

Pryor is not a point guard in any sense of the term but is starting here to try and slow down Majishun who was fantastic last series. He is the heart and soul of the Nets and if he is nullified by Pryor’s amazing defence the Wizards should be in for a chance.

Winner - Brooklyn

Shooting Guard
JD Lawson vs. Kenneth Long
15.8 points, 9.0 assists, 4.4 rebounds vs. 19.6 points, 3.4 assists, 4.8 rebounds

A much better passer and does most of the ball handling for the Wizards, Lawson would love to go further in his career, and a win here would be great for his resume. He’s short but plays above average defender but Long is just too classy to be pinned down here.

Winner - Brooklyn

Small Forward
Jason London vs. John Brown
33.8 points, 3.2 assists, 3.2 rebounds vs. 17.4 points, 1.8 assists, 6.4 rebounds

He’s only 6’5”, 189lbs, he’s a horrible individual that alienates every teammate he has ever had in his six teams in nine years but damn Jason London can score the ball. He’s a career 59.3% shooter (what) and is shooting 67.7% so far this post season. John Brown’s sole purpose in life right now is to slow down (no-one can completely stop London) this unstoppable scoring machine.

Winner - Washington

Power Forward
Brian Caldwell vs. Marlin Bain
12.0 points, 1.8 assists, 11.6 rebounds vs. 19.8 points, 0.8 assists, 11.4 rebounds

Another headcase, Caldwell is good but not great so his exploits are harder to sweep under the rug. He’ll have to put up AND shut up against Marlin Bain who has exploded in the past year and will want to continue his play for a huge pay day this off season.

Winner - Brooklyn

Centre
Brian Benton vs. Salvador Rios
15.4 points, 1.4 assists, 10.4 rebounds vs. 9.2 points, 1.0 assist, 6.4 rebounds

With Rowan Taylor out for a torn Achilles, Benton was expected to take over but he hasn’t really done that. His rebounding is great but he will need to step up against the Rookie of the Year favourite to get his team in the hunt.

Winner - Washington

Bench
Joe Morgan, Tony Myers, Michael Graham vs. Curtis Anderson, Matias Perez, Curtis Mueller

Three word recap of Washington’s bench – meh, meh, meh. They’re decidedly average and will get chewed up and spat out by the Nets’ outstanding second unit.

Winner – Brooklyn

Prediction – Brooklyn in six. The Wizards will steal at least one but the Nets are too battle hardened to let a team like this sneak past them.

In game one Jason London lived up the hype, going 23/35 for 50 points as the Wizards shot 63% from the field with Kelly Pryor and JD Lawson adding 28 assists between them. Doesn’t help that we shoot a comparably poor 55% and only 23 points off the bench. It does help that Marlin, Ken and Cort had 30 points EACH as JB adds 8 steals to his 23 points as we take out a track meet 147-132. Marlin and Ken combined to shoot 25/32 from the line as I was puffed just watching the game.

Brooklyn leads 1-0

It seems that every game is going to have a Jason London listing and tonight is no different as the Wizards’ wizard had 45 points and 8 rebounds. However, to the glee of everyone in the stadium, Cort Majishun went 18/29 for 51 points and 12 assists as we take game two 137-128. It was a spectacular display that forced all eyes on him for the entire game and only after I saw the box score after the game did I see that JB had 18 points, 9 steals, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. JD Lawson had a similar statline but different with 12 points, 10 turnovers, 9 assists and 7 rebounds.

Brooklyn leads 2-0

The Washington faithful are worried that after two massive scoring games that they’ll need to replace the nets with so much friction going on with the ball going through the ring so many times. It wasn’t so bad tonight but it was much, much closer. Jason London only had 23 points but was finally helped out as the two Brians (Benton and Caldwell) combined for 44 points and 23 rebounds as the Wizards took an early 15 point lead. With the team we have that’s no obstacle as Marlin Bain overcame a 8/20 FT night for 32 points and 13 rebounds as we chipped and chipped away at the lead to take the slimmest of wins, 125-124. With so much scoring in the series and the game it was surprising that the game was decided on the defensive end as JB had one of his six steals with three seconds to go, taking it from London. Oh yeah, JB added 29 points on 12/15 shooting and he’s having one hell of a series.

Brooklyn leads 3-0

It would be great to take the series in a sweep but I have a feeling that’s not going to happen, especially when Marlin tweaked his ankle and will come off the bench here. He still had 22 points as JB was in foul trouble as we faltered in the final term, losing it 32-19 and the game 129-122. Cort was fantastic with 36 points and 8 assists and even though we held Jason London to 22 points there were seven other Wizards in double figures, led by Brian Benton’s 21 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks.

Brooklyn leads 3-1

Game five was no contest after half time as we outscore the vanquished 68-31 in the second half to take the game 119-93 and the series 4-1. Curtis Anderson started again for the injured Marlin and had 31 points and while Sal laid a goose egg he did have 14 rebounds and 3 blocks. Matias Perez did his best cameo work with 17 points on 7/7 shooting in 10 minutes. Jason London finally broke down, going 6/20 for 14 points as Brian Benton was the best of a bad bunch with 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Brooklyn wins 4-1

#1 Dallas and #2 Minnesota won their series’ 4-1 while Indiana got 114 from Ish Faye, Gerrod Phelan, Mike Joseph and Michael Harmon to beat the Heat in game six.

2036 NBA Playoffs

Eastern Conference
#1 Brooklyn vs. #2 Indiana

Western Conference
#1 Dallas vs. #3 Oklahoma City

We lost both games of the season against the Pacers and this is going to be our real test to see if we are a title contender or just regular season warriors.

Eastern Conference Finals – Indiana vs. Brooklyn

Point Guard
Michael Harmon vs. Cort Majishun
25.6 points, 9.3 assists, 3.5 rebounds vs. 26.9 points, 8.5 assists, 3.9 rebounds

It’s weird to think that a 157lb, third year point guard would be one of the best in the league but that’s exactly what Harmon is. He’s quick, can score in bursts, pass like the dickens and is a fantastic defender and has been rightfully compared to Camah Williams. This match up is drool worthy as Cort Majishun is not one to stand down from a fight and both will go at it as hard as they possibly go.

Winner - Draw

Shooting Guard
Tom Phillips vs. Kenneth Long
10.9 points, 6.2 assists, 4.0 rebounds vs. 20.7 points, 5.0 assists, 5.1 rebounds

After trading away Curtis Anderson and Kelly Pryor, the Pacers have no shooting guard depth and have a real problem here. Phillips is small, slow, injured (strained knee) and only a decent defender and will be crushed by the Long juggernaut. If Long fires then this will be a short series.

Winner - Brooklyn

Small Forward
Marcus Sanders vs. John Brown
13.2 points, 0.8 assists, 4.8 rebounds vs. 17.5 points, 2.2 assists, 5.6 rebounds

Marcus Sanders is a bull and at 6’11”, 251lbs he’s got the build to run riot. He’s not a SF which is in Brooklyn’s favourite but he can do enough to get by. John Brown has been a defensive wizard these playoffs, averaging 4.2 steals a game and putting a halt on the Jason London express last series.

Winner - Draw

Power Forward
Ish Faye vs. Marlin Bain
24.2 points, 0.9 assists, 7.3 rebounds vs. 20.6 points, 0.8 assists, 10.3 rebounds

Ishmael Faye is the most talented player in this series. He can score, rebound and blocks shots like a demon and is itching to put this young upstart in Marlin Bain back in his place. Faye’s only 24 years old but it seems like an age since he got drafted. This is the most dangerous match up for the Nets.

Winner - Indiana

Centre
Gerrod Phelan vs. Salvador Rios
16.6 points, 1.3 assists, 8.7 rebounds vs. 8.7 points, 1.2 assists, 6.7 rebounds

It’s strange to see Phelan starting here instead of Josiah Williams but coach Lawrence Frank must think that using Phelan’s speed will cause Rios to come unstuck. This is a good plan as Phelan is a very talented player who is usually overlooked due to Ish Faye. He could be the x-factor in this series.

Winner - Indiana

Bench
Josiah Williams, Mike Joseph, Billy Jefferson vs. Curtis Anderson, Matias Perez, Curtis Mueller

As said before, having Williams on the bench is a huge surprise but a very good one for the Pacers. This gives them loads of options throughout the series. Joseph may be 33 years old but he can still fill up the cup. Another critical battle, whoever can get the most out of their second unit will surely be closer to victory than the other.

Winner – Draw

Prediction – Brooklyn in seven. This will be a tough, grind out war that will really galvanize the winner. Whoever that is? Only time will tell.

I’m actually really excited for this series as it will be our toughest test by far. The crowd is buzzed for it as well as each person gets a t-shirt that says ‘city > country’ which may have gone a little too far but right now I don’t care.

It seems that the Pacers cared as they race out to a five point quarter time lead and then an eleven point lead at the long break thanks to Ish Faye and Gerrod Phelan. Michael Harmon was kept in check though so all wasn’t lost. Two threes to start the third by Ken pushed us back into gear as Sal was giving as good as he got from Phelan, finishing with 22 points. The fourth term belonged to us as we pumped out 37 points in the final term to take first blood 120-110. Ken took Tom Phillips to school with 31 points while Sal and Cort added 22 points apiece with Cort dishing out 12 assists as well. Ish Faye was fantastic with 31 points and 11 rebounds while fouling out Marlin in only 25 minutes and Gerrod Phelan did his best with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Michael Harmon was terrible though, going 5/12 for 11 points and 6 fouls in 24 minutes.

Brooklyn leads 1-0

Game two was dead even through the first two quarters at 32-32 and then 59=59. After the long break something clicked for us as we rode Cort’s 16 points in the quarter to win it 34-14 and to cruise to a 119-95 win. The real hero? Abel Williams. Not only did he have 13 points and 11 rebounds off the bench but Ish Faye had 18 points and 9 rebounds before fouling out Marlin Bain, but with Abel guarding him he only added two more points and one more rebound. Cort finished with 25 points and 6 assists to lead us. Gerrod Phelan and Salvador Rios had their battle again with Phelan having 26 points and 13 rebounds while Sal had 18 points (8/11 FG) and 5 rebounds.

Brooklyn leads 2-0

It seems that the Indiana crowd didn’t seem to like the whole ‘city > country’ jab and countered with their own ‘it’s time to go to bed, little brother’ as a remark about us being second fiddle to the Knicks. Lately it’s been the other way around but they wouldn’t hear it and I don’t blame them.

Michael Harmon finally came to play with 33 points (and 9 turnovers) while Ish Faye continued his fine form with 28 points and 9 rebounds but again we took the game, winning every quarter and were up every minute but three to take a commanding 3-0 series lead, winning the game 115-99. Ken torched Tom Phillips for 32 points and holding Phillips to 2/10 shooting while JB had his best game of the series with 26 points and 11 rebounds and fouling Marcus Sanders out in only 18 minutes. One more…

Brooklyn leads 3-0

It would be astounding if we swept the Pacers and we would be raging favourites to take home back to back titles but to win two in a row against a team of this nature would be difficult indeed. It seems that all Michael Harmon needed to do was to warm up a little because he’s on fire at the moment and finished with 27 points and 11 assists in the game. Cort countered with 21 points and 7 rebounds and Ken added 22 points but the real star was Matias Perez who is making a name for himself with little scoring cameos and tonight had 12 points in 9 minutes as we complete the sweep with a 112-107 win. The major factor was again Abel Williams’ defence on Ish Faye who ended with only 16 points and 6 rebounds on 4/12 shooting and fouled out to make matters worse for him.

After doing this I’m a little torn. On one hand we’re the odds on favourite to repeat but I have a feeling that even if we do win the title we’re still almost $14 million over the salary cap and I don’t think that will save me from Mr Hill’s knife.

Brooklyn wins 4-0

It’s going to be a Brooklyn/Dallas NBA Finals for the fourth time in five years as the Mavericks outlasted the Thunder in seven games. Jack Dawkins had 27 points as the Thunder ran out of gas to lose 100-77.

2036 NBA Finals

#1 Brooklyn vs. #1 Dallas

We split the season series but after sweeping the Pacers and the Mavericks having to slog through seven games against the Thunder we are the favourites to go back to back.

Point Guard
Ledaryl McMillian vs. Cort Majishun
21.5 points, 6.2 assists, 3.9 rebounds vs. 25.1 points, 8.9 assists, 4.3 rebounds

It seems that the age of the Buzzsaw is finally coming to a close as McMillian is just good and not otherworldly. Judging by his stats he can still fill it up but the days of him taking over whole series’ are over. Majishun is dying to repeat his title from last year as his thirst for glory is unmatched after being left out in the cold in Memphis.

Winner – Brooklyn

Shooting Guard
Brandon Oliver vs. Kenneth Long
9.4 points, 3.7 assists, 2.8 rebounds vs. 22.4 points, 5.1 assists, 4.9 rebounds

Oliver is 6’2”, has a strained calf and only an average player and he’s going up against a six time All Star who averaged 26.5 points a game last playoff series. Kenneth Long wiped the floor with Tom Phillips and he will do the same with Oliver.

Winner - Brooklyn

Small Forward
Jack Dawkins vs. John Brown
26.9 points, 5.4 assists, 7.1 rebounds vs. 16.6 points, 2.1 assists, 6.2 rebounds

With Ledaryl McMillian slowing down in his career it’s been up to Captain Jack to pick up the slack. He’s been dominant these playoffs as the fourth best player in the playoffs going off the efficiency statistic. Just like against Washington, if John Brown can slow down Dawkins then the Mavericks might be sunk. If Dawkins can let loose then expect either a triple double or a 50 point game, he’s that good.

Winner - Dallas

Power Forward
Terry McKenzie vs. Marlin Bain
15.9 points, 1.3 assists, 8.8 rebounds vs. 17.9 points, 0.7 assists, 9.8 rebounds

Another Maverick that is starting to get into his twilight years, McKenzie hasn’t had a good a playoffs as previous years. He’s 32 years old and this might be his last chance to add to his three titles but he’s going to have some stiff competition as even though Bain got his colours lowered a little against Ish Faye he’s still been a fantastic player this post season.

Winner - Draw

Centre
Kresimir Balas vs. Salvador Rios
14.5 points, 0.8 assists, 7.4 rebounds vs. 10.7 points, 1.0 assist, 5.7 rebounds

It’s strange to think that Balas is already 26 years old as many still think of him as that young upstart that stole the stage in the playoffs in 2032. He will have his work cut out for him here as Rios is starting to really come into his own with his scoring and defence. If Balas can explode here it could be the tipping point for the Mavericks.

Winner - Draw

Bench
Eddie Harris, Justin Willis, Magnus Carlsson vs. Curtis Anderson, Matias Perez, Curtis Mueller

This is where the Nets are their most dangerous. Anderson and Perez have been fantastic while Abel Williams has been a great performer off the bench. On the other hand, Dallas’ bench is pretty basic, with only basic players who are only saved by Magnus Carlsson and his ridiculous ability to score the ball even at 38 years old.

Winner – Brooklyn

Prediction – Brooklyn in six. Even without Tiburcio Tommasini the Nets are just too talented and too hungry for this past their prime Maverick squad. Bet on Brooklyn doubling up.

That’s a lot of pressure on us and will probably light a huge fire under Dallas so I would love to get the first two games under our belt quick smart.

Game one was intense, as the Mavericks were riled up no end due to the series preview, as Eddie Harris took special offense and had 17 points in 24 minutes off the bench as they got out to an 18 point lead at half time. After that, all us. Marlin was spectacular with 24 points and 16 rebounds and made Terry McKenzie look 60 years old as we took the first game 118-112. We had the four highest scorers in the game with Marlin, Cort (22 points, 7 assists), JB (21 points, 7 rebounds) and Ken (19 points, 7 assists) as Jack and Ledaryl were held to only 38 points between them.

Brooklyn leads 1-0

Jack came alive with 21 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists but had no help whatsoever as we torched the once great dynasty 127-107. Marlin was again amazing with 23 points and 17 rebounds while Ken and Cort combine for 48 points and 14 assists and JB chipped in 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals.

Brooklyn leads 2-0

The Dallas crowd are irate, how dare people question their stars? The house was packed beyond capacity as a whole wing worth of seats were replaced with a standing room. It seemed to work as Ledaryl McMillian finally fired up with 33 points and Kresimir Balas actually did something with 23 points and 13 rebounds as the Mavericks hit back with a 117-105 win. Cort Majishun was our sole light with 36 points as the team shoots 41% from the field in a massive let down from the last two games.

Brooklyn leads 2-1

Oh no. Not only did we get smashed 135-112 to level the series 2-2 with Cort having a devil’s triple double with 19 points, 15 assists and 10 turnovers, Marlin Bain does his back in the fourth to be down for two weeks. Did I say oh no? Because this is serious. Jack Dawkins was amazing with 33 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists while Terry McKenzie frees himself with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Oh no.

Series tied 2-2

Abel Williams will start at PF for Marlin Bain. Hopefully this works out.

Holy hell it worked out. We win every quarter as Curtis Anderson has a whopping 35 points in 28 minutes off the bench as we take a 3-2 lead with a 130-115 win. We shoot a crazy 54% from the field with Ken and Cort combining for 41 points. Terry McKenzie likes playing against Abel much more than Marlin and had 21 points and 5 rebounds but Jack and Ledaryl had only 22 points as the Buzzsaw has been rusty for all but one game so far. I did not expect this at all and hopefully, with two more games in Brooklyn we can take care of business.

Brooklyn leads 3-2

This is it, the crowd knows it, we know it and especially the Mavericks know it. That’s why they got out to a dozen point lead at three quarter time with Terry McKenzie, Kresimir Balas and Ledaryl McMillian going bananas. They combined for 50 points for the whole game and it seemed that we would need a game seven. However, one man didn’t see it that way. In came John Brown who had an amazing 20 points in the last term as we outscore our opponents 40-20 to win 112-99 and capture our second title. JB finished with 27 points and 12 rebounds as three other Nets had double doubles.

But who cares? WE WON AGAIN! Streaming fall from the rafters like rain as the crowd goes ballistic as I race down the stairs before actually tripping and getting carried to the court by jubilant fans. I’ll never forget that feeling of elation, then fear and then relief. The players are already in a giant huddle as I squeeze as much as I can but that didn’t get far. After what seemed like a long, sweaty time they break and the photo of the Finals was taken with both Ken and Cort giving peace signs to each other, symbolising their two championships together. Oh yeah, they had the biggest smiles on their faces in the photo.

Cort got some more trinkets for his trophy cabinet as he was named Finals MVP with averages of 23.5 points, 9.0 assists and 4.2 rebounds. It would have probably gone to Marlin with his play before he got injured but I’m sure he’s not sweating it.

I’m sweating about my meeting with Mr Hill though…

How the Brooklyn Nets Won the Title (again)

The Nets were on top of the world after winning their first ever title, but they were still hungry. They wanted more. This season started well, going 3-2 before rattling off a twelve game winning streak and then going 25-3 after that to be sitting pretty at 40-5 and they were firing. Things looked bad in their first winning streak with team scoring leader, Tiburcio Tommasini tearing his knee tendon and being sidelined for 12 months. As you can see this didn’t dent the team as the won and won easily over the first half of the season. There was a bump in the road as the team ‘only’ went 4-4 before another 16 game winning streak cemented them as the team to beat. It seemed that the Nets believed their own hype and promptly dropped five straight home games to show that they weren’t invincible after all. They were still the best team in the league and their bench ran the rest of the way as they finished the season at 65-17.

The playoffs came around and first up was the New Orleans Hornets who they took care of fairly comfortably in five games. Next up were the Jason London led Washington Wizards who were also dispatched in five games even though London averaged 35 points a game in the series. Their first biggest test was the Indiana Pacers who were a powerhouse in their own right. Four games later and the Pacers were sent packing with their tails between their legs as the Nets routed them in a sweep. Their NBA Finals opponents would be none other than the Dallas Mavericks who they beat in last season’s Finals. This was a comfortably affair for the Nets as they only lost two games in the series to take home their second consecutive championship.

The off season looks promising for drama as their star big man, Marlin Bain, is up for free agency and there has been plenty of talk surrounding Tiburcio Tommasini and if he will be traded for cap space. All of that is in the future, so right now here are the guys who made it all possible –
