It turns out that MVST's SG Anthony Crawford won't be able to play today. But there is no reason to be confident. It's always dangerous to face a team that have their backs against the wall.

We were in for an early surprise, as MVST's big men bullying their way against our soft defense. I reminded my players during the timeout that we lost in last year's conference semifinals, and we don't want to repeat that again.

However, successive fouls (we have 4 team fouls already) on our part allowed MCNST to score 7 straight and we're staring at a double digit deficit once again. Wilkerson 2 straight FGs. MCNST draining another 3. But we were able to tie the score a few plays later, with a combination of fast break pts and 2nd chance opportunities. We have 5 team fouls, but we're starting to force MCNST into errors. MCNST made their last shot to regain the lead.

We're also executing our defensive game plan. We try to hound and double team their shooters, but the moment they dump to ball to their big men in the low post, we'll collapse in the zone. Sometimes we're late in rotating, but oftentimes it was successful. So far so good in defensing ARIZ's superstar freshman PF Terrell Crooks, just 3 pts, 1-6 FG.

As long as ARIZ keeps using the one, we hope to continue hitting our 3PT shots (10-18 3PT in the 1st half, 7 coming from SG Drew Walker). And we will continue with our "harass and collapse" defense, which we are using extensively for the 1st time this season.

So we can't really just instruct our players to just collapse on the shaded area every time ZAGA's big men get the ball.

ZAGA's ball movement just too quick for our defense to react. The moment we collapse on the lane to prevent an inside basket, they can quickly kick out for an open 3 (ZAGA is 4-9 3PT).

We haven't had a consistent scorer other than SG Haven Wilkerson. But considering that SG Drew Walker and PF David Andrews have combined for only 3 pts, and we're down by just 3, we're still in a good position to snatch this game. We have done a good job so far on the defensive glass, allowing only 1 offensive rebound for ZAGA


Start of 2nd half

ZAGA got off to a quick 10-0 start, including a couple of 3PT shots. I was contemplating on playing purely 2-3 zone to neutralize their penetrations, but clearly, ZAGA has shown they can score in a variety of ways.

Our deficit grew to 18. After a long time not getting our shots to fall, we finally were able to hit a couple of 3s. But ZAGA's Victor Prince (17 pts) beginning to dominate the inside. I have to take a risk here, and go 2-3 zone all the way and hope their outside shots won't fall.

PF David Andrews gets his 1st pts of the game on an offensive put back. After an unsuccessful possession by ZAGA, Andrews makes a 3. Another miss by ZAGA. Andrews already feeling it, shoots another 3, and scores again! An 8-pt explosion from Andrews.

ZAGA finally able to break our zone and scores a 3. But I an encouraging my players to just stick with our plan. It's still a long way to go
