3/12: #1 seed? #2?

#1 South! We play #16 Fairleigh Dickinson, 20-12. Their startiong PG is out with a broken wrist. We're a huge favorite.

We like the bracket!

3/17: Early lead. Up only 1 after 10. We're flat. Then a run. 47-33 at the half. 13 for Holl. We're running away with it in the 2nd.

95-58. 25, 2, 5 for Boon, 18, 10, 5 for Holl, 12, 7, 4, 3 blocks for Toon. 10 TOs to 24.

3/18: #8 seed Kansas, 22-13, in the 2nd round. Thye beat us by 8 at their place in early December. We think we're much better inside and as good outside. We shot poorly, 33.3%, and got in foul trouble last time we faced them.

3/19: Close early. Down 3 after 10. 38-34 at halftime. Balanced scoring. Ausk has 3 fouls. Up 4 with 10 to go.

90-74. We got hot late. 20, 3, 4 for Boon, 14, 8 for Toon, 4 others with 11 or more. Good bench play. 7 TOs.

The grains are getting to be a serious problem. Wheat, oats, and such are no longer available. The agronomists and the geeks are still working but no sign of a fix, or an idea about what's causing this.

3/21: #5 seed, #19 ranked Ohio ST, 24-11, in the Sweet Sixteen. We're a big favorite but their SF is an All American.

3/24: We score the first 8. Up 8 after 10. 42-41 at the break. 17 for Boon, 12 for Moca. Their SF also has 17. +14 in the paint. A run puts us up 16 with 10 left.

88-67. We took off late in the game. 25, 4, 3 for Boon, 17, 8, 3 for Moca. Each of the other starters had 10. +20 in the paint.

VERY costly win. Starting C Du Moca broke his leg and is out for the season. Rui Leti will start.

3/25: #2 seed, #11 ranked, #6 NET Oklahoma ST, 28-10, in the Elite Eight. We beat them by 28 at our place in November but that was a long time ago! They're 7-3 vs. ranked teams. They can score outside. Not having Moca will hurt.

3/26: They take the lead quickly. Down only 1 after 10. 42-40 at the half. They're beating us inside. Up 11 with 10 left.

90-76. They got it to 4 then we came back. Leti had a great game filling in at C, 19, 8, 3 blocks. 19, 8, 6 for Holl, 22, 4 for Ausk.

We're in the Final Four!

3/31: We play #2 seed, #10 ranked, #7 NET UNLV, 29-7, in the national semifinal. They're another team that is stronger outside than inside.

We think we're better but they're 5-0 vs. ranked teams.

On the other side it's #1 ranked Duke vs. #7 Arizona.

4/1: They take the lead right away. Down 3 after 10. 35-46 at the half as they finish with an 8-0 run. We have 3 starters with 3 fouls each, Holl, Ausk, and Leti. They have none. We're playing catch up in the 2nd and not getting there. Down 11 with 10 to go.

70-88, the fouls and having Moca out did us in. 15, 5 for Wats from the bench.

4/3: #1 ranked Duke is the champ. We're the only team that beat them.

4/4: Awards: Duke's Sam Riviere won every national award.

In the ACC Ted Holl and Velo Ausk make the 2nd team.

4/9: TP goes from 86-92. Duke wants me.

I visit Duke.

I can't say no. I'm going to Duke.

4/23: I ask for a facilities upgrade.

No.

33-7, Final Four. 36 seasons, 1121-217, .838.

5/1: Preseason #1, recruiting class #13.

5/14: “We need to strip it down to the floor and walls.”

“Yes. The geeks have gone through the computers right down to the most basic levels and that's not where the grain problems lie. So there's got to be something, a virus we can't detect or something. So yeah, let's shut it down, strip it down, and start from scratch.”

It's not easy being without bread, without wheat and oats in any form, no breakfast cereals with them, no pancakes, waffles, toast... Yes, we're making things out of rice, potatoes, and some other things but it's not the same. And rice bread and potato bread don't make very good sandwiches as it turns out.

People have had to change a lot about what they eat and they're not happy about it.

“If all goes well it will take about a year to get up and running again, IF that solves the problem.”

5/29: We lose 2. One of them would have gotten minutes, the other wouldn't have. We need a big man and a guard.

Round 1: No offers.

Round 2: We offer to 2, both Bs. We get a guard. He'll play, may start.

Round 3: We offer to a PF, rated B. Got him. He'll get minutes.

6/25: We'll go to Indy and all the regional camps.

The Bai have been fully assimilated onto the ship. They have been assigned work and living quarters. They socialize with the rest of us. There are even relationships between one of our people and one of their people. It is doubtful that many people see it as our people and their people. We are pretty much one group now.

6/26: No scholarships to offer.

8/7: SG Mel Dens is #8 on the Norton list.

9/4: It feels strange not to be recruiting. This is the first time in my long career that this has happened.

9/18: Going to the Coaches Classic vs. Illinois ST. All of our pre-conf. opponents are currently ranked.

10/2: First day of practice. We are NOT deep. Great starting five though.

The chefs are being as creative as they can be but a diet without things like wheat and oats is definitely limited.

11/11: Here's the lineup:

Soph Cal Winn, a transfer from Gonzaga, is at the Point. He looks like he'll be good, but not outstanding.

Soph Mel Dens is our best player. He'll start at SG. He does everything well.

#3 guard is frosh Jim Hold. He's decent. #4 is junior Jim Green, who has not developed. Finally there's Adam Reve, a soph who will only play in garbage time.

Junior Cris Fell started at SF at Utah last season and the season before. We think he'll be a good player for us.

Frosh Joel Deck is at PF. He looks like a scorer who does most things well.

Junior Will More is starting for us for the third year in a row. He's a very good player and a real glass eater.

1st big off the bench is frosh Paul Robb. He's still developing as a player. #2 is frosh Dar Abny, who is not ready. Junior Tim Morr has been a disappointment. Don Burn, a junior, is another disappointment.

Injuries would do a lot of damage.

11/12: We're the #1 seed in the Coaches Classic and we play #16 Ill. ST. This is a team we should beat easily.

11/13: We score the first 8. Up 17 after 10. 50-27 at the half. 15, 7 for Dens. Up 33 with 10 to play.

87-63. We didn't expect much of a challenge and we didn't get one. 17, 15 for PF Joel Deck, 21, 8, 3 for SG Mel Dens, 13, 0, 9 for PG Cal Winn. 6 TOs and much better inside.

6th man Paul Robb hurt his foot. He's out for a week.

11/14: #8 seed Stanford in the quarter finals. They have aq very good PG but not much else.

The #3, 4, and 7 seeds all were upset.

11/15: Up 1 after 10. 42-45 at the half., We're playing lousy D, they're shooting 53.3%. Down 1 with 10 to play. We're just not playing well.

83-76. We did just enough. 16, 11, 4 blocks for Deck, 13, 15 for More, 15, 6, 3 for Dens. 11 TOs.
